Heat Management And Coal Use

Hey guys,

I have been smoking some AF mango lately using my 30" pharaoh with a standard bowl. I have been using 1 Golden QL with it and a wind cover. This works great, if I tried using 2 coals but it gets harsh.

My question is does anyone else only use one coal when smoking AF.

BTW I put it on the outer part of the bowl and move it around. It smokes great, lots of flavor and smoke. Im just seeing if any one else only uses one coal.

I also dont break mine in 1/2 either.

Um which bowl is it exactly? I used to use one coal with my old mya bowl all the time.

Just the standard egyptian bowl that came with my hookah, the same one can be found at HS.

I just use Golden QL coals.

If it works great, stay with it I guess. You might have more success breaking it into halves though.

And is this a 40mm coal or a 30mm coal we're talking about?

Smoked some Golden AF Esk. Apple last night out of my standard egyptian bowl, about 15g, and used two 1/4 pieces of exotica coals. When those were done threw on another 2 same sized pieces, got a good 2hrs + out of the bowl. No burns whatsoever

I don't know if you still use your windcover when you use 2 coals, but you won't need it with that much heat (until they are about 1/2 normal size). Edited April 8, 2008 by Jeff_T

I believe 30mm, its what came free with my hookah from HS. I tried the halves an they seemed to burn way to fast and not enough heat. I also used romman when I tried that.

Yeah, it isn't really necessary to break the 30mm. You might have more success using two of them sans windcover though, than one of them with, as Jeff proposed.

Whatever works though.

If you have QL's to spare, try stacking them..
If their naturals, I just cut them to two or three smaller pieces and place on sides on the bowl. Works perfectly for me.

AF is an amazing tobacco, but it's also pretty sensitive. if you don't manage it perfectly it will get harsh. I used 40 mm golden coals atm, and i just slice it in half and put 1 on each side and rotate. I ussualy get like an hour and a half sessions before it starts to get kicked. Just make sure you pack it very losely and dont let the coals hit the middle.

I usually smoke out of small egyptian clay bowls. I do the same use one 3king ql and just move around the outer edge lasts a long time and i dont use as much tobacco.

I find this is the best way to smoke AF.

2 coals on the edges of the bowl should do it for you if its 33mm.
