Clay Vs Ceramic

Recommended Posts

So I have been surfing retailers and some will have some bowls that are made from clay and some other vendors will have the same one but ceramic. What's the pro's and con's of each. I know about phunnels. I am just wondering about the deference in these two materials for smoking hookah. Edited by Stuie

Only from my observations

Ceramic doesn't tend to ghost flavors as much and gets pretty hot. Clay heats up more evenly and doesn't require a bunch of management with the coals, also they tend to be a little more fragile the longer they are used I feel... If you can find a glazed clay bowl, I would say thats a good one to keep. I could be completely wrong in any case, they could be exactly the same... Edited by Shifty

Ceramic is more prone to shattering, while clay chips.

As far as thermal capability is concerned, they're pretty much the same in practice. Clay is naturally more retentive, though, this doesn't make a bit of difference when you have coals providing heat.
