OC4111
Hey guys I need your help. As most of you know I'm new both to hookah and Hookah Forum. I want to make sure I'm not burning my shisha. Last night I smoked a bowl of AF Vanilla with 2 shots of Patron Cafe in the base. I really liked the taste even though I'm not a coffee drinker (I even got a pretty good buzz) but after about a half hour the smoke was tasting a little rough. Can you guys post pics so I can see what cooked shisha should look like after a session? Thanks.

OC4111
Should any shisha be sticking to the foil?

Voski
it happens unless you underpack. Should not be a problem but just like Canon said just move the coals around
OC4111
Good deal. I was using 1 1/2 Rolland QL (they came with the hookah package, I'll probably be ordering 3K when I go through those) I'll try using one tonight.

mathuv
apparantley rollands suck. anyway, just try moving the coals abit or even just break them in half and put them on opposite ends of the bowl and rotate them once in a while
OC4111
I figured they suck since they're so cheap and made in China, also since they don't last that long and ash like crazy. I might have to switch sooner than later.
smidge
Rollands do suck, i know from experience. I swear, those coals tried to kill me.
Nikon1323
yea i have rollands and there not good at all.....only reason i have them is because i got 100 of them for 6 bucks so i gave them a try....the only last about 20-25 mins so you have to use twice as many as 3 K and yea they do ash like crazy so

Anxiety
also when you pack your bowl make sure your shisha is lose in the bowl, if it's too tight it burns alot quicker Edited April 9, 2008 by Anxiety
OC4111
I hear ya. I make sure to blow through the bottom of the bowl after I pack it to make sure it has airflow.
Snoopy1966
New coals for sure, and move them around like Canon said. You will learn the art of heat management soon. You will even know when the tobacco is about to burn and take off the coals and recover it. If you stay with QL's (NOT ROLLAND)get 40mm and split them in half and put the halves on opposite sides of the bowl and move them to the next area in 15 min or so, then you should be able to leave them there until the next coal. Bulldog_916
Sorry, but 3 Kings or Goldens are the only QLs worth using. I use naturals cuz they are better than QLs period. For the price of a box of Golden QLs I can get a coil burner and a bag of Smiley's coconut coals or Rolland Fingers. Come on, seriously people! Why do you torture yourselves with QLs? I mean, I can see it if you're away from an outlet and cant light up the naturals or maybe you're in a dorm, but other than that, there is no real reason. Majid
If it gets too harsh, take off the coals for a half a minute and blow through the bottom of the bowl. That stops shisha from sticking to the top too much and it helps it cool down a bit, prevents burning. After that just put your coals back on. and +1 on switching to either 3 kings or natural coals. You haven't tasted what the smoke is supposed to taste like yet if you use some of the other QL's, really makes a big difference.
OC4111
I feel you on the change. I had another session last night and was quite dissapointed. I used one coal and the damm thing only lasted like 25 minutes. On top of that, like you said, I know I'm not getting the full flavor. It left a funny taste at the back of my throat. I hate Rollands
Khronokai
How are you packing the bowl? I had the same problem and it was due to lining the inside of the bowl (which I read to do for non-glazed bowls on another site). Also, as mentioned, if you pack it in too tight you'll have trouble drawing smoke and it'll start to burn but that doesn't seem to be an issue. How many holes are you poking in the foil? When you're done is the shisha ashen (I mean, if that's not a sure sign it's burning, I don't know what is =P )
OC4111
I'm packing pretty loose. After I put the foil on and make the holes I blow through the bottom to make sure I'm getting good airflow. I had session with one coal(althought it was a Rolland QL ) and that came out a little better. I bought a roll of Golden QL's 40 mm and I'm gonna try it out by breaking it in half and still using the one coal.
