Destroyed a $20,000 kitchen work surface.

So we had a brand new kitchen installed. All the work surfaces, flooring, walls, tiles the works. Every damn inch of the kitchen renewed...

So I was experimenting with Nahkla naturals... Had the bag of coal on a heat-proof glass worksurface protector.
Using a propane torch i was merrily lighting said naturals...

So I light the naturals and go into the front room to smoke and everything is kosher right?
WRONG

So about 25mins into the bowl and i'm thinking everything is smoooth and everything is cool... then *BANG*!

I think shit - Someone has fired off a shotgun.

Only it wasn't a shotgun - It was the glass heat-proof work surface protector exploding. Everywhere!
With a full bag of Nahkla naturals all nice and glowing hot in the middle of it the mess

Burned a hole about 9inches wide into the work surface.

Turns out that during my flame-throwing session to light the coals, some small embers had fired off into the naturals bag and had set the whole damn thing alight.

Mrs Johnny was suitably pissed off.

Thank fuck we had insurance.

Just talked to a friend of mine last night and he said he bought a throw rug from a garage sale to put under his coffee table to hide his burns and prevent further burns.... can't believe i didn't think of that!

I have quite a few of them. The kitchen floor, by the computer in my living room and the in my bedroom. They said they were going to replace the carpet before I moved in because there was a couple of stains that did not come out, but I put a big rug over them. Hopefully they will just change it and give me no problems. Now I am much more careful, I have a coal holder instead of bringing the Hookah to the coals. I have many rugs down and a big slab of wood for now to put the Hookah on the floor and I ALWAYS keep water handy. Smoking outside in this coming month or so will be great. It was nice in FL because I smoked outside the whole time I was there.

I'm in the same situation with my appartment. They asked if we wanted new carpet but move in 2 days later. We already had the moving truck scheculed and couldn't do it. We have managed to put a couple burn marks in the carpet (which had a rip in it the day I moved in anyway). Shouldn't be a problem but I saved the emails in case they try and dick moves. I also managed to burn the linoleum in the kitchen when a natural coal decided it just wanted to fall apart. Luckily that was not in my apparment.

I have only had one relatively mild burn on my carpet and it is hardly noticible...I was putting the coal on the bowl to start( but the coal was half on the bowl half of) and low and behold it bails down. I managed to pick up the coal in time but a few little pieces of coal made little marks which I made " unnoticible" with a knife.

Aw hell, this thread cursed me!

I was reading the replies, and wasn't concentrating on what I was doing and dropped a coal on the floor... couldn't find it because it rolled, and now I have a 2 foot long trail, and then a hole in my carpet the size of a golfball... DOH!

Well when smoking indoors I smoke in my basement which is concrete, but sometimes on a table with a cheap tablecloth. Went through one so far that had maybe 20+ holes in it, and the new one has one already.

When I smoke outdoors it's either in the hookah shack I got which has a $20 indoor/outdoor carpet in it and that think has quite a few burns in it, but like I said it was $20 at wal-mart for like an 8'x8' carpet so who cares.

Actually if people are worried about burns I'd suggest checking that out and tossing it over the area you smoke, especially if you rent because if you do then I'm sure you're well aware of the cost youll have to pay when you move out for all those burns lol. $20 carpet, Im tellin ya, greatest hookah accessory.

I also rate that going with a cheap carpet is the way to go. Even if it not that thick, it will buy you the time to get the coal of, or the carpet outside with the coal wrapped in the carpet.

Will probably save you alot of holes that could end up in your " real" carpet.
