I Am Sad.

So my friends roommate was put in another dorm hall because of a fight that him and his girlfriend had

so my friend has a room all to himself! a corner room, with 2 windows, which provided a nice draft, so what did we do? brought in our hookahs!

his, a small 18 dollar hookah with a tiny 2.5 - 3 foot hose and mine, a brand new hobo fitted on a very large skyy vodka bottle, with water in it, well, weve been smoking for about a month and a half at this point (in his room at least) and one day, out of the blue my friend and i come back from the cafeteria to hear my friend say "there are police officers in the room"

apparently, the former roommate of my friend was coming to get things, and he was with some RA's because he cant be in that building alone...the RA's saw 2 hookahs in plain sight, but they didnt think they were 2 hookahs, they thought it was a certain other smoking instrument. so they caleld the police, and our hookahs were confiscated.

we told the RA that these 2 instruments were in fact hookahs, he said he would make a note of it, but if we wanted them back, we would have to call security

so we did, now the hookahs have been sent to "the lab" to be tested for a certain illicit material, which is whack...

i wish people were more well informed, hookah smoking IS a new trend (yes hookahs have been around for a very long time, but its now picking up speed)

now im bored, and have nothing to enjoy.

Damn that really sucks! At my school, they understand hookahs so they don't confiscate them or anything, they just tell you you can't smoke them in or around the dorms. I was caught smoking and they said, "Doesn't matter what you're smoking in that, it's your business. Pack it up and put it in your car and take it to your friend's place."

Sucks big time....BUT on the bright side they will test and find (I assume) tobacco only and then not only will they be out the money for the testing but they will have been educated to what the hookah world is really about. PLUS they have to give them back but since the cops really don't care there may be damage to the pipes before you get them back. If so, file a claim and buy new pipes - on their dime. In the meantime, me being the rable rouser I am at heart, personally I would be over at the student union or newspaper spreading the word left and right.

I'd just make another hobo hookah if I were you. It might've taken a while but who knows when or if you'll get it back, and even if its soon and you do get it back, hey you'll have two!

it sucks that they are ignorant pricks. as stated above...watch out when you get them back, they are more than likely to have damaged them. Its gonna be a tough battle, going back and forth between departments to get reimbursed...but fight them, fight it. If ya let them get away with it, they'll just go ahead and walk all over everyone.

Well, get a padlock and keep it locked up next time. Out of sight out of minf... Never lived in dorms but I suspect you have to agree to a shitload of terms for the 'privilege'. Personally I wouldn't agree with anyone marching into my place without my consent.

that does suck. lucky for my school we have a giant middle eastern population and 3 hookah bars on campus.
i used to smoke on the roof of my freshman dorm before the RA realized that i figured out how to remove the window block so i could open it up all the way. he only caught me because i was dumb and forgot to turn the light off in my room so you could see me on the roof at night.

I just saw my attorney (he has two dogs and I am his veterinarian). We discussed this a little. Yes, a dorm contract typically requires you to sign away many of the rights most of us hold dear. He said cases like this can be extremely complex. Even an electrician who comes onto University property to do work may be at some risk.

His advice (as usual) is that the injured party seek legal counsel!

That last part is one of the agreements at most of the dorms I've seen here in Oregon. That, along with the dorms costing more than a local one bedroom apartment, is why I don't live on campus.

It's true, people need to be more educated about hookah smoking as the new trend. As soon as someone not "in the know" sees a water-pipe they automatically think you are doing illegal drugs.

I refuse to live in dorms ever again...
Summer of '06 I stayed for summer classes. One day I return to my room to find that my stuff from the floor was on my comp chair and that someone had been in my "closet" because the doors were open and the jackets I threw over my safe were moved and it was revealed. I was pissed, I took it all the way to the building management team. They were really rude to me. They told me that electrical crews were in and that I have no say on who comes in and out of my room at anytime. I said I don't care if they come in, I just wanted to have advanced warning so I can be there, since at the Punxsutawney campus, I had an IPOD Nano and my class ring stolen. They said they don't have to tell me shit. I also stated how they rooted through my positions and still got the "sorry, but there is nothing we can do because nothing was done against policy, hope you can adjust to our accomodations for the rest of your stay here"...I said " Your policies are shit and you're a joke, no wonder why there are so many thefts on campus and nothing is ever recovered. Go fuck yourself. And warn your crew to stay away from my room. If I find them to come to my place again without my acknowledgment again, there will be personal injury involved"
needless to say, they did not return to my dorm room until I moved out. I left out a lot of my fowl language I used on him...I was civil and polite until he started handing me the bullshit.
