indian_villager
So you don't want to wait for your stem to dry eh? Dont wanna worry about green gunk building up in your brass cored stem due to letting watter sit to dry eh? Well here is my solution, this shouldn't even take five minutes! Materials: Old shirt Wire coat hanger Tools: Scissors Hands Procedure: Ok take your coat hanger and twist it apart(you now how around the hook it is twisted into a loop). Then unbend as many of the bends as possible to make as straight a piece as possible. Take one end and make a small tight hook. Now take your old shirt and cut a good strip of cloth. Now you are done. To use. Push the small hook you made up through the stem. NOTE if your hook is scraping against the stem make the hook smaller. Now once your hook is out the other side hook the piece of cloth and pull through! Now you are done. PICCYS! Kathrynx
Or, you could go to your local music shop, and ask for a bass clarinet swab...long piece of cloth, attached to a string, attached to a weight to let it slide though without losing it... skydivemd
Great idea for stem drying on a budget.I wound up purchasing a universal gun cleaning kit (check K-mart or Wal-mart -- they are fairly inexpensive and a good investment) and plan to use it strictly for hookah cleaning. It is nothing more than a fancier version of the coat hangar mod.I have found that a .44/.45 phosphobronze brush does a very good job of getting bits of stuck on gunk out of the stem. I'd like to find a .50 brush and try that too... A .22 or .17 phosbronze brush will clean out the stems for the hose port and purge valve. I would recommend that anyone who decides to purchase a gun cleaning kit go ahead and pick up a pack of 100% cotton cleaning patches. They are sized almost perfectly for swabbing/drying out the stem (you just push them through with the long rod from the kit).Best,Rick

I use a gun cleaning kit I bought just for hookah. The .45 wokrs pretty well but the .50 is awesome on my 32" one hose egyptian, my hookah stays cleaner than anyone's around, allows for a better pull.
