Best Type Of Foil/screen?

Recommended Posts

lol so this whole time ive been smoking hookah ive been using heavy duty foil, and i never understood why the hell it took so long for the tobacco to get hot and get nice smoke. So today i ran out of it and used a lighter foil type and the second i put the coals on it was like instant smoke. Im sure alot of you already new this, but for the newer people out there lol use light foil wallbash.gif

i like heavier and as you get better at packing youll notice the time it takes to get smoke with heavy foil will be how it was with light foil.

are you using quicklights?

So Im on a little quest to get the best info on hookah/shisha.
I use to use normal foil, then I changed to thick foil so it wont burn so fast, and the best foil I had was the ready made foil for hookah.

So what do you think is the best foil to use or screen?
and if its a ready made for hookah where can I buy it from?

Ill be making a few threads asking these type of questions. Cause Im buying a new hookah and want to get all the best stuff for it.
Thanks

When I use foil i use Argeelah Sheets by Mokhtar. My wife the doctor prefers that we use screens though. She has some concerns about inhaling Aluminum fumes. (Even though the inhalation of them are minimal.)

I have always been an advocate for foil. But recently I've gotten lazy and started using a screen. If you pack it right and have good coals, there shouldn't be any issues.

As I'm typing this I'm having some Nakhla Lemon under a screen.. and it's damn good.

Cool, so my thread was moved in here.
Where can you buy this Reynolds heavy duty, is it better then the hookah ready made foils?

Never tried a screen, but once at this shisha/hookah cafe, this old guy was smoking it without anyfoil, or any screen just straight on the shisha. I tried some, and.... i kinda died

On at least a couple websites I've seen pre-cut sheets of foil for a reasonable price - like $0.99 per package. It's more expensive than rolls of foil from the grocery store, but still not outrageously expensive. I believe Hookah Company is one of those who sell them. As does my local shop. I accidently bought regular weight foil this morning and it's working just fine although I'm packing a little lighter to give it more space under the foil.

I really don't understand what you guys see wrong in the regular reynolds... works excellent for me, never gets harsh and I slightly over pack and none of my tobbaco ever burns.

Anyone know any sites that have good premade for hookah, and Ill try Reynolds online too.
Might be silly question, but shiny side down right?

shiny side down, and those precut foils they say are for hookahs are just a bunch of BS, they are the same darn thing as any foil you'll find at a grocery store, just buy an entire roll of Reynolds HD, or Regular, I like regular better.

I don't mean to sound dumb but aren't screens made of heavy gauge aluminum? The ones I have sure seem to be.

All the precut foils I've ever used have been thinner than standard foil. Current brand is "The Bird- Healthy Aluminum chips".

I've used precuts, normal foil, heavy duty foil, flimsy screens, the more substantial screens that come with combo bowls, and even tried making my own screens out of the thinnest aluminum flashing I could find (I made the holes with 16penny nails.). The only ones I didn't like were the cheap screens (holes too big, bowl full of ash) and the homemade (too much mass, never got hot enough to transfer any heat downward).

I like the convenience and the look of the precuts better, they look more uniform on the bowl.

Normal foil is cheap and always accessable.

Thick foil distributes heat a little better, but the greater mass takes a litttle more heat to get started. It is also a little more rigid, and doesn't droop down and touch the shisha. I find anytime the mo'assel chars and sticks to the foil, my throat and lungs strart to burn, and nausea sets in. YMMV, that's just how my ravaged respiratory system responds.

The combo bowl screens are nice because I can just rotate them, saving the trouble of redistributing individual coals. Again, more mass means more heat required.

And this has been discussed to death here, but I have not heard any convincing data as to why the shiny side should be up, down, or sideways (OK, sideways it's really hard to balance coals on that edge.) I venen emailed reynolds corp., but never got a response.
