DrShisha
Right guys, iv played around with the water level but at night when i just want it to be dead quite, its horrifyingly loud. I like it when its just "wheezing" when im watching a movie or something. Could anyone guide me to the water level which gives the least amount of noise? Ta people. mathuv
hmm.. try a diffuser? doubt it would fit though. try making a homemade one.
teq
The majority of the sound is reverberated up the stem and out the bowl. A wind cover will help to dampen the sound, but if you don't want the extra heat, a hollow cylinder will have the same effect. Soup cans work for me.That, plus a diffuser, will keep the stem from making any noise. Also, a thicker substance will provide more surface tension, and thus potentially quieter bubbles. AKammenzind
Yeah, I'd agree that you should make a homemade diffuser (pingpong ball, shuttlecock, or a pipe cap and a drill is all you need... maybe some tape)Not sure though, as I rarely have that problem... I'm deaf in my right ear so if I want it to be quiet I just put it off to the right side and I only hear a faint whisper
manic007
My brother has a Bambino. The regular Heba diffuser works fine, it fits through the base opening with no probs. It doesn't remove all the noise, but there is a significant difference.

Voski
put ice in it after you add the water. The ice will make like a donut around the stem and it will make it quieter. But you can make a diffuser. If you can get your hands on a drill go by like 1 inch of PVC pipe and a end piece. Then just drill the fuck out of it and put it on the hookah. Marbles might work..... less water that way.Like I mentioned earlier, though, most of the noise comes upward through the stem and out the bowl. Wind covers or just a cylinder on the bowl will make the gurgling sound more hollow and subdued.
Voski
It doesn't add clanging for me it actually makes it sound like I have a diffuser in there.
teq
You must add a lot of ice then.I rarely have crushed ice, but when I do, it's nice to use a lot of that and a few cubes.
Voski
Hmm... I have never used crushed ice but yes I add a lot.
Alademuerte
I have Heba Diffusers on my Hookah's, and they make a huge difference on sound... (Not that I want to dampen the noise, but I prefer the diffuser)QUOTE (erufiku @ Apr 13 2008, 12:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Keep smoking, eventually the brain will learn to ignore the bubbly sound +
teq
I remember mentioning it on at least two other threads, but smaller cubes of ice have more surface area when you account for random displacement. They're better turbulators than cubed ice, but a combination of the two is even better turbulation. You'll pretty much be able to cool the smoke twice as effectively... even moreso if you add a pinch of salt. gaia.plateau
If it's "wheezing" it's probably because your setup is mishandled... are you blowing at the bottom of the bowl to unclog it? Is your foil tight? One of those is probably the issue for the wheezing.Smaller hookahs are louder than large hookahs, because there is less distance for the bubbling sound to travel within the waterpipe before it reaches your ear. A diffuser will help a lot.
paiintballa182
As its already been said, diffuser(home made or heba)
Baric
Shoving a load of straws up the end of the downstem (ie the bit that sits in the water, not the end with the bowl on) works to quieten my pipe up. basically just push up a number of the cheap plastic straws you find in any food shop up the downstem until they only poke out the bottom a bit and so that they stay in of their own accord but arent squashed in it (or else airflow may be restricted then just consider the straws your new downstem and adjust for water level. if this is still too loud - maybe bending the end of the straws so that they are all horizontal will disperse the bubbles enough!nb thats basically just a homemade diffuser as people have suggested but a quick and easy one i found to work using stuff i had in the house. teq
The straw idea works, but you have to remember that they're meant to be one-time use. If you don't throw them away, you risk leeching chemicals in the water. Also, the size of the holes limits the amount of diffusion.A cork or thimble are better alternatives.
