Coconara's

Recommended Posts

... The real deal?

Reading through the reviews so far I am seeing that there appears to be lots of claims about
'lasts 3 times longer than other coals'

However BOTH my Japenese style coals and my Exotica coals all last a good hour to an hour ten.

They start easier than the coconara's and Have no taste either.

So what makes coconara's such a great deal - Or are we suffering from fan-boy-issm again?

I'll let you know JD.

I doubt they last as long as others say and i hear they light slower.

I bought some cause i wanna know what all the fuss is about and i'm on the last row or so of exoticas.

I'll try to remember to review them and i'm not gonna flip out about "OMG THESE COALS ARE TEH AWESOMZORS OMGOMG BEST COALS EVAR!!" "THEY LAST FOR LIKE 3 DAYS AND MAKE SHISHA TASTE BETTER BY CHEMICALLY ALTERING THEIR FOR TO ACTUALLY TURN THEIR ASH INTO MORE SHISHA!"

I hope they are nice and easy to manage, not that exoticas are not but ill try something new.

They're good but take longer to light than some other coals. They do in fact last quite a while but the thing I like about them most is the fact that they hardly even ash which is a big plus. When I compare them with by Abo Alabed coals (which are Nours) they ash to save their life and
they have a horrible starting taste (maybe they're not completely lit but this always happens)

I would like to try those Canary Golden Jap. coals and compare them with Coco's. JD, how do those japanese coals of yours ash?

Quick note: Takes about 5 minutes to fully light a cube with my torch on low but I blow on them to speed it up wink.gif Edited by AzZ

JD,

for me, they last about 50-55 minutes without a wind cover. i have a feeling if i had a tall enough wind cover, they would produce enough heat to last about 20-25 more minutes.

while, they do take longer, IMO they are a lot EASIER to start than japs or exoticas:

1- no silver crap anywhere - when i used japs, i blew the coals to get the silver crap off and it went everywhere
2- you don't have to cut them like exoticas

they do give very even heat though. not as much as a QL, but a little bit less. on juicy tobaccos, I use 4 cocos on my small funnel. on tangier's, i use three, and then usually have to take one off halfway through

i never had coconaras, but the cocochas i have last for an hour and a half.
they do take a little longer to light than jap silvers coals. they only emit a little smell when lighting but not when smoking and don`t add any taste.

you can get them at 8 euros(6.5 quid) for 3 kilos at shisha-world: http://www.shisha-world.com/Cococha+Kokoskohle+3kg.htm

i`m not a fanboy and i also like jap easy lights.

I have Golden Canary coals and I did not like them at all. They are messy and I could taste them whilst smoking. I have been using the coconaras since they came out and they are a much better coal. They do take a little longer to light, but you taste no coal and you get an awesome tobacco taste like you have never had before. No bandwagon here, just a great product that I will continue to use.

austinthecity hit it right on the head they last about 50 to 55 minuets without a windcover and then I put mine on and get another 20 minutes out of them

Yeah, the 3x longer is a big stretch I would say. Last time I was smoking outside with the wind blowing and no windcover on they lasted me about an hour, give or take five minutes. Never timed them inside, but suspect it's about 15-20 minutes longer.

Great thing about them is heat management, all you have to do is flip them from time to time. I'm lazy about heat management so with other coals my shisha would be spent before the coals were, just because some of it was burning. With coco's I can huff and puff and be a lazy bastard, and I usually still have some uncooked shisha on the bottom of the bowl, but I'm usually too lazy to light up a new coal. Also, very little ash which is a big plus in my books.

They tend to laster longer then an hour for me. Plus i had 1/4th stick of exotica and one coco-nara going on the same bowl once and the coco-nara was easier to deal with you could say. But they do take a while to light I will give you that.

+1 I'll stick with my 3k QLs. They're reliable and don't leave any flavor and last about an hour per coal.

I don't need any special fanyboy coals thats the hot new thing.

please do not compare quick lights to natural coals...if you really think 3k are better than golden canary, exoticas or coconara you really haven't smoked enough. its pretty much fact that they are so much worse.

not trying to insult, its just the truth. mmm mmm added chemicals to ignite them.

It will be your coal of choice.

That's what I'm afraid of.

The only coals I can get locally are Dodo quicklights, Pharoh quicklights, bulk naturals, and finger naturals.

To balance out the shipping cost, I'd have to get at least 800 coals.... not exactly in the budget right now sad.gif .

Of course, let's not forget the ethical implications -- Coconaras don't sacrifice any trees. happy.gif

This raises an important point actually. Are our coals enviromentally sound or are they from the rain forests? That would possibly change my purchasing decisions.

So what I'm reading from the responses is thusly :-

There's not much in it apart from you don't have to break them up and they might last another 15/20% longer. But they take longer to get going.

Interesting. Not sure it's worth going out of my way to try them though.

don`t get them from the US, the shipping charges will be too high.
you can get cocochas at 12moons.de and they only charge 12 euros for shipping to the UK.

Maybe you smoke really, really slowly... but my Exoticas never last more than 40 minutes (using them in quarters or thirds). By this same speed of smoking Coco Naras last between 80 and 90 minutes (the review in my signature shows pictures of the Exoticas being completely spent while the CNs are only halfway done). For me, I'd rather have a coal that takes 3-5 minutes to light and has no chemical bonding agents, than a coal that takes 2-4 minutes to light, splits and cracks, burns inconsistently, and does have chemical bonding agents.

But yeah, I think that the points which make these coals excellent have been made pretty clear in numerous threads... ask someone in the UK to mail you 2-4 in an envelope and you'll understand. Edited by gaia.plateau

tongue.gif Get with the program subby! I only use QLs to burn down my failed business investments for insurance purposes.

I'm pretty sure that Exoticas come from Lebanese trees, so they aren't from rainforests, but yeah, you're still smoking trees sad.gif

All Im saying man is they're what I started on and have never given me a bad smoke. And I haven't had this 'chemical taste' some of you claim. Ive used naturals before and they work just as well, Im just impatient and like my quick lights because they're good to go in like a minute
