Sariél
When I got my small phunnel, I found both my windovers were too short. The Taj cover was hanging from the bowl, and with my original wind cover, the top was touching the coals. This problem was made worse when I used finger coals (diamanté or excotica) as they are thicker, and add a good half inch to the height. So now I use chopsticks laid across the ash tray, and set the windcover on them. Plus, I can use them to move the coals around if I misplace my tongs.
Canon
i just lay the windcover on the coals, but other ppl use tongs to prop the windcover up.
MechAnt
Chopsticks....That's ingenious! Excellent idea, I'm doing this from now on!
indian_villager
Someone try that "fez" wind cover offered on hookah-shisha and let me know if it works! Supposedly it fits phunnels. Its the kind that just sits no the bowl itself.

NJE03
I have a similar problem with my windcover not being tall enough. Propping it up with something is your best bet.
Voski
I use tongs until the coals get small enough to where I can just rest the wind cover on the bowl without it touching the coals.
Bandit402
My windcover wasn't big enough so i took a large can of beans, emptied it out, cut both top and bottom off and wedged my windcover on it. Instant super tall windcover to fit over the phunnel. (I think theres a video of this somewhere out there)
teq
A Monster BFC works well.If you're worried about aesthetics, you can sand off the label and it'll actually look like it belongs.
jordanneff
I'd just wrap the bottom of the windcover in foil, make it an extra 2 inches tall or so.You can ghettorig a lot of things with aluminum foil....
Scoop
i dont like the windcover touching the coals. the metal of the windcover gets charred and i get massive headaches from doing it. a metal coffee container works well.
