wackypipe
Ok, so I'm not new to hookahs, but I am the new proud owner of one. (Never owned one before). I have searched these forums and would like to boil this down: What is THE best coal? (Quick light and natural) What is THE best tobacco brand? (not flavor) I know how to light and use the 'wacky pipe' but I want to know what is the best of the best. Keep in mind, money is no object. I want the best experience. Years ago, I had friends from the middle east, then I discovered the local lounges. Now I want to bring that experience home. Let me also say I am very familiar with forums and have searched this one a lot, but I want to boil this down to the bare essentials. Thanks! [LB]
first of all pleeeeease dont call it the wacky pipe i really dont like that name. second of all- best coal, first of all its all personal preference. If your impatient like me you will like either golden or 3 kings, it doesent make too much of a difference the best tobacco is also personal. My personal favorite brand is al fakher, i have not been let down- except for the fact they should relable 'double apple' as licrorice. Some people like nakhala or al waha that sh*t makes me wanna put a bullet in my head. Romman is also way up there.
mushrat
You are not going to get a real answer to either of your questions. Everything is according to personal taste. I use bulk natural coals, they require a lot more preperation, but I prefer them for the smoking experience. Al Fakher may be the best all around ma'asell but there are flavours they make I dont like, and there are some flavour by Romman I like more and some I can't stand. Thats like asking us what YOUR favorite beer should be..... As far as what to call the Hookah, I agree, we try to present the hookah as a legitimate smoking device, while "whackypipe" lends itself toward what most people THINK the hookah is for.... That help? Oh and welcome to the forum!
wackypipe
my apologies for the poor choice of wording. I'll change my sn shortly as well. I appreciate the response regarding what is the "best". I guess I should have said what are the popular brands. There have to be a lot out there that are just junk. I personally like the word "hubbly bubbly" as that was the first way I ever heard to it referred to as. I can't wait to start using this again, it's probably been 3 or 4 years since I last used one. "Hubbly bubbly", yes, but I prefer to stay away from the "modern" names, I prefer using hookah, nargile, or shisha. But thats just me. as fotr popular brands, Al Fahker and Nakhla seem to be the most popular. nakhla is a lower quality brand, it is only popular because of its price. Although I say that, I have no problem with Nakhla and I have not tried Al Fahker.
mushrat
Wacky: no worries...though hubbly bubbly sounds ok to me....appriciate your understanding though. Nakhla is the cheapest, its also the most commonly smoked brand in the countries where it's actually part of the culture as far as I have been able to research. It seems to be the easiest to find in local middle-eastern markets and shops. Some of its flavours are not bad at all, I recommend the 2 apple, the melon, and the orange. STAY AWAY FROM THE REGULAR MIXED FRUIT! TRUST ME. If you have a particular flavour or flavours in mind, you might have more luck with recommendations...then again.... Soup
2 apple is a nice flavour and melon is wonderful...Has anyone tried rose? It is quite lovely.
nickdeveau1
I've used both natural coals and quicklights in a few different varieties and I prefer the natural coals because i know whats in them. Charcoal. Nothing else. They also seem to last much longer. So I can enjoy my smoke more by putting a little more initial work into it.
MR Bubble
Howdy and welcome wacky. If you like your name, then that's cool. We have had a lot of names come through here that were more cause for concern than wackypipe. Here is your homework: Since you say money is no object, start making purchases of some of the more popular brands and then decide for yourself. I personally prefer Nakhla myself. Money is not the concern here. Though some have claimed that MRS Bubble wears the pants here, I say that is not true. She pretty much lets me get away with what I want and I must admit for being a married man, I am spoiled. So, having said that, my favorita all- round brand, still is Nakhla, but some manufacturers have some flavors I like better. We know part of the fun (at least 99.5% for me) is experimenting with different brands/flavors. You must do this, because it is known fact that no one single company makes all their flavors the one of choice for everyone. Some flavors of Fakher are super yummy, while others are about as intriguing as turnups. Nakhla is just fun to play with (and puke from too when you get hold of the magic flavor). Coals are another story. Unless you get hold of one of the really el-cheapo, obscure brands out there, you will find most coals meet demands for quality. Some factors depend on your own body's system, and what it can handle. I would say to get some good quality Japanese coals, a rool of 3 kings, a roll of Goldens, a small bag of lemon wood chunks (Romman brand) and maybe some nour fingers. No, not all at once, but over time and decide which is best. I know, not much help, but you arent going to get the "best" by sticking to 1 brand only. Just have fun and good luck. wackypipe
Wow, thanks for all the advice. I am pretty basic when it comes to flavors. I like the double apple the best. I like anything with a thick rich smoke. I have tried grape and didn't like it. I thought raspberry was ok. I bought a 'starter kit' from an Egyptian shop near me. I got 7 boxes of tobacco and some coal (I think it was 3 pyramids brand). The place seemed extremely authentic. Everything looked like genuine Egyptian imported, including the employees and owners. The whole set up is a gift for my girlfriend for xmas, so I don't get to use it for another month. Personally, I would have gotten all double apple if it was just for me. I will have to check the brand name when I get home. I used to goto Fumari in San Diego, but probably haven't been in 4-5 years. They had a very good set up there. wackypipe
I got double apple, raspberry, strawberry, melon, apricot, grape and one other, can't remember. I will have to look at them later, don't remember the brand either. Got grape again, figured I'd give it another try, it sounded good.
gunsboy
Most Shisha smokers I know evolved throught the years, thats including me. I started with "double apple nakhla" all the way with 3 kings fast burning coals. I stuck with it for a while. I started trying different kinds of tobacco and coals. It took me a while to realize that with most cheap brands "double apple" was the king. Lately I put an order from Al-Fakher golden . I bought Nour Charcoal and I had some bulk too. I gotta tell ya. I am ruined. I cannot smoke AlNakhla again. I cannot use the 3 kings charcoal. Now I order my next shipment of Al-Fakher and Al-Amir before the one I have is over. I usually order about 2-3 kg every shipment.

wackypipe
Ok, so I have 6 boxes of Layalina and one box of Al-Waha. I have double apple, strawberry, raspberry, apricot, melon, peach and mango. The coals are quick light by 3 pyramids. Looks like some folks on this forum really dig Layalina and some really hate it. I guess we'll find out. I have faith in the place that sold it to me, so I suspect goodness.
