Safari Browser

So my Quick Time had an update and there was an option to install Safari Web Browser too. I installed it to check it out. They say it is faster then Firefox. I think it is a by just a little. Any thoughts on this browser for Windows? I am liking the bolder fonts and less clutter in the status bar and things. I do not like that I do not have a middle wheel scroll button though....
Anyone else try it out?

Safari is more barebones than Firefox for sure. Not sure how the windows version would be, since i'm sure it had to be significantly formatted for the OS. Mozilla makes another browser called Camino that is in the process of being adapted for Windows. That'll be faster than anything else out there by the time they're through with it.

Camino's available for download on OSX on the Mozilla projects page now

It is time for me to look into a new Desktop. Any suggestions for Apple? I want to get one, but I really do not know much about Apple computers so any help would be great.

Pros Cons of Apple plz compared to Windoze. I run Windows on one desktop and my lappy, and run Ubuntu on my other desktop. I really like Linux a lot.

Just ordered me an Apple Macbook last night. This will be my first Mac to own. I needed something small for portability.

And if you get a macbook or any other laptop you can always just buy an external monitor for when you are at home. Edited by waterboi

I don't really even use Safari on my Macs. FF for me.

If you were looking for a Mac desktop, I'd start slow with an iMac. The Mac Pros are a tad too expensive for someone just wanting to give OS X a whirl.

I'd suggest going to an Apple retail store if there's one near you... or you could try the Woodfield store in Schaumburg whenever you come through town... or Oakbrook... Chicago... Northbrook... smile.gif

Apple has 3 stores in WI:

Glendale

Madison

Wauwatosa

Maybe those aren't too far from Appleton. smile.gif

Yeah, I have been using FF for a long time. Safari just did not do it for me. I will be sticking with FF.

It's clunky, unstable, and not very good overall on the Windows platform. Firefox is best for Windows.

Yes I agree, and I found the interface for Safari a bit unwelcoming after a while.

Cool Thanks, I was looking at the pro and when I was done adding what I wanted, it was over 4 grand!! Too much.

OK a question. I see that most iMacs have 1 GB of RAM already installed, is that good enough for Mac? Or do you need a ton of RAM like Windows does??

Also what softwares are good to add along with the choices they have?

Thanks for the replies, biggrin.gif

OK what do I add to this to make it a good computer??

Hmm...I do not download porn. That is just not right. I use external hard drives to store my stuff I do not want to loose in case of a Windows failure which happens to often. That is why I like Linux and looking at Apple to find a better OS. As far as programs for Windows, I am already used to that from running Linux, and I get better programs that are FREE!!!

Thanks Scott for the tips.

You will really like Linux. You can pretty much put your computer in a stealth mode, and even with my 4 year old computer I can get Compiz Fusion running and have awesome desktop effects. After all, most have video cards that are just wasted. That is why I run it on my compy in my bedroom. It is just mainly for music and surfing the net. I can do lots of cool photo editing. You can download many versions of Linux that have a live CD so you can check out the OS before you install and nothing is installed on your computer.

I am not a mac user, but i have friends that are... and they use firefox and opera. I am kind of under the opinion that web browsers made by OS companies suck... sorry Safari and IE fans, no offense, they just don't seem to be as popular as others. Edited by Stuie

Ya... pass on the Mac Pro. Although an 8 core Intel processor is tempting... wink.gif

1GB isn't nearly enough. I'd say go for a minimum of 2GB... Newegg has some Kingston RAM (good company)... 4GB for $72... not the fastest memory, but it's not like you are going to be overclocking the iMac, so this stuff would be perfect.

As for what software you may need? Possibly Office 2008... and it already comes with iLife '08... so you will be able to do all sorts of stuff out of the box. smile.gif

Here's more about iLife:

There are also tons and tons of freeware and shareware programs too:
