What size of bowl are you using? Some who have bigger bowls may use 1 1/2 or 2 discs, wheras I use a standard Egyptian bowl and use only one. I have best luck by breaking a disc into 4 quarters, lighting them, and laying them on the foil. I find it evens out the heat better, or I should say distributes it better.

thanks, but thats not what i really ment by my question. I use quick
lighting coal so What i do is light up the coal wait for it to finish
sparking up and put on the head. but some people tell me to light the
coal up put it on the head, wait for like 2 minutes and start puffing
or as cypress does he heats the coal up with a pot?

Any way you like. I have no desire to light it and put it on the head right away. I'm afraid some of the sparking agent residue will enter the bowl and make nasty tastes. I think you will be doing right if you just make sure its glowing hot and then put it on. As for a pot, this may make it quicker as the heat will be trapped in while lighting.

Well, for the taste factor there are many things. First off, for the coal, make sure it's red hot underneath, don't just spark it up. I normally light the coal under a candle for a bit until it's all red underneath. Then you want to put it on and let it sit for a bit. That's if your hookah was properly prepared. Make sure that the water level is right, you don't want the pipe to be more then 1 inch in the water for filtration purposes. Also, the way you pack your tobacco, you want it to be loose. If you're using foil, wrap it tight, leaving space between the tinfoil and the tobacco. When you're poking holes, use something small. I usually use a led pencil, I have tiny holes and I have the ability to control where they go. I normally do a spiral design, starting from the outside going in. Then you can burn your charcoal, put it on top and smoke away! Hope this has helped!Jon
