aykay
To tell you the truth i had one of those before, it just made a slight difference but its not worth it.
[LB]
i had an ice bowl. It broke within 2 sessions, and i could never get the tinfoil or tobacco right on it. I got my money back so you can try, it didnt make a difference to me. Just get a regular hookah and hten buy a double or extra large bowl-and then dumb extra ice into your vase, throw it in the freezer and then pull it out when its really chilled (dont wait too long or it will crack and your f**ked)
mushrat
The part about not leaving it in the freezer is a key one...
yashman19
He is refering to the extra ice chamber on the stem of the hookah, not an ice bowl. Take a look at the picture in the link. And to the OP, a buddy doesn't have that exact same hookah but has one with an ice bucket on the stem and he says theres roughly no difference from when he puts ice in it and when he doesn't. Its just as cold putting ice in the base. If I were you, I would use the money you were going to spend on that torrent, and buy something without an ice bucket but of better quality. [LB]
i didnt see that- but that is one sexy hookah with the black vase matching black hose and bowl, and then chrome all over its pretty nice. Just too modern for me i prefer a classic blue vased hookah with some comfy velvet sleev hoses. but to answer your question once more, i strongly doubt that would make a difference. the only way to really chill your smoke is through seperate ice chambers- heres the thread http://www.hookahforum.com/forum/forum_pos...s.asp?TID=1907& amp;KW=ice+ and then innovative cooling ideas http://www.hookahforum.com/forum/forum_pos...s.asp?TID=1803& amp;KW=ice+
Sariél
I have an ice chamber that I use on two of my hookahs (the gold mya has different-sized threads.) I keep it full of salt water in the freezer. It definitely makes a difference, and added to the ice in the vase, it delivers a heavy, cool smoke. ahwahoo2006
If I remember my chemistry correctly, the salt lowers the freezing/melting point of the water. It basically has to do with ionic bonds. Not to bore everyone, but heres how salt unfreezes ice: Ice forms when the temperature of water reaches 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius). When you add salt, that temperature drops: A 10-percent salt solution freezes at 20 F (-6 C), and a 20-percent solution freezes at 2 F (-16 C). On a roadway, this means that if you sprinkle salt on the ice, you can melt it. The salt dissolves into the liquid water in the ice and lowers its freezing point. What Sariel is taking advantage of is the opposite principle, rather than making ice warmer he is making water colder. In a normal ice/water mixture, as long as liquid water is present the temperature can be no lower than 32 degrees. With salt, you could have an ice/water mixture much colder than that. My only concern would be the taste. Can you notice the salt Sariel?
Sariél
You don't notice the taste, as the smoke doesn't filter through the water. The liquid surrounds an inner stem that screws onto your existing stem. I got mine as part of a package at my local Hollywood shop, B&N.
mushrat
Aint science grand? No corrosion problems with the salt water?
jmexx
I'll post now, read later. I have the Ice Torrent. I only use it when I have groups of people and I want to impress. Whatever you do, do not get it with the black bowl. It looks great but argh, so frustrating. Putting water in the ice bowl then putting that in the freezer is the best way to really keep your smoke cool. Ask if you have any questions :)Jon
Sariél
No corrosion yet, but I've only had it for a couple months. I keep it in the freezer, and have changed the water twice. A good design would probably be a sealed version full of anti-freeze gel.
