waterboi
Maybe ice chamber? IDK. As for a diffuser, some say they are nice. I myself have not smoked from one yet.
Johnny_D
Thus far I've yet to be sold on the point of ice.Ice Chambers? The smoke is travelling way to fast for it to have any noticeable effect. Ice bowls will crack and the point of a bowl is to heat tobacco.Ice in the water makes for a nice musical chiming noise lolJD -
TubaTrav2010
Ice Chamber/catch. it's a fairly large chamber of ice that the smoke travels through. And as to answer the smoke moving too fast, it adds about a foot to the overall size of your pipe. (the actual device is only like 4-8 inches tall) but it works like a coolant system for your car. the smoke travels through a tube that is surrounded in ice, the tube curves and twists around in the chamber. The smoke is still moving the same speed, just takes longer to exit the ice chamber. I went ahead and ordered both, just for kicks and giggles, so Ill be posting on how they work on wednesday or something around there. Does anyone know of anything else that is designed to improve your smoke? possible an attatchment or something I can add to my existing pipe? But for the most part is smokes amazing. I am quite unsure of the brand, but it's a 26-30" 4 hose rotator, using a medium ceramic bowl. or a large clay bowl, I have a metal bowl but I hate it. A good majority of the times it gets really harsh through the smoke, and I was looking for ways to rid of the harshness and bring on the smoothness. I use RedKastle Olive Wood natural coal heated on an electric coil in my kitchen. Usually I smoke starbuzz, but am thinking of starting the long process of perfecting tangiers. Personally, my ice chamber does cool the smoke at al. It does however make it considerably denser. As for the diffuser. I have two different ones that I use on and old hookah. One is homemade and one is the heba. I perferre my homemade one. I find it to work much better than the heba. I love to use my diffuser on my old hookah. Of course I rarely use my old hookah any more. I loved it for two reasons. In that hookah the smoke seemed a little grainy to me. Not with the diffuser. Smooth as a baby's bottom. The other reason is i love to use tea bags in the base and with the diffuser it pickes up the tea taste 10x better.
waterboi
Sounds like you maybe letting the shisha get burned or too hot. When it starts getting harsh do you remove coals or anything? Also when you pack you bowl is the shisha touching the foil or are you not putting enough shisha in the bowl?

Like a lemon tea, or peach. Cool, Ill try that sometime. What tobacco do you use?

So I usually let anywhere between 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch between shisha and foil. When it gets harsh I do take off coal, but the harshness is still there. I broke up the olivewood into brick sized pieces, and usually I use anywhere between 3-5 pieces on the big bowl and 2-4 pieces on the mediums. Should I switch to a cooler burning coal or is it the bowl?
Johnny_D
Too much heat then. Have a read around. There is no need to worry about foil touching coals. In fact you may be underpacking the bowl under the incorrect illusion that coal should avoid tobacco. Please remember that the original setup called for coal to Sit DIRECTLY on the tobacco.Just a thought.JD

waterboi
when you poke holes in your foil, poke hole down through the shisha some also. That helps too.

SimplexCoda
That is a ton of coal. But ya I would say experiement. Thats how I got it down. People say its ok for the tobacco to touch the foil but it doesnt work like that for me.

Have a quick look at :-And these are my holes :-And my coals atop :-Give something like that a whirl? Thanks, Im about to load up again and I'll see how it works out for me. The problem may be that I am poking very small holes for my foil. I use a safety pin. So that may be a big deal of the problem with the dragging roughness. Is it better to use a fork ( i am a huge fan of oyesters, so I have a fine fork for that) I'll try that out with larger holes. Thanks!!
teq
Cooling the smoke isn't going to do much if it's too hot to begin with. You're probably having a pressure issue for a multitude of reasons. Depending on the tobacco and coals, I'll poke holes of different sizes and formations. The smallest hole is the size of a toothpick and the largest comes from the pointed side of a bottle opener, about the size of a pea.Make sure you're using the right amount of water -- the stem should be submerged an inch to two inches.Check the purge valve for moisture and dry it out if necessary. Also, look at my inexpensive tool to manage heat: http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?showtopic=20542
erufiku
I don't agree about the whole foil/baccy touching theory. Whenever I let the baccy touch the foil while smoking juicy shisha, the molasses end up sticking to the foil and there is no way to save the bowl from that dreadful harsh taste unless you change the foil. I usually leave a tiny bit of space between the foil and baccy, the latter expands a bit due to heat afaik.
