NJE03
I have been having trouble with breaking my Exotica finger coals for awhile now, generally when I try to break them they will break into shards that are difficult to use. On the other hand when I try to "saw" them dust goes everywhere which is rather annoyingI figured there must be a better way... anyone have a recommendation on how to break these more efficiently? shisha fan
you can make a small breaking line with a knife first so that it snaps off in the right place.
austinthecity
saw them on two touching sides over a paper towel. then break them over the sink
Johnny_D
Exactly as per shisha fan.Make a scored line in the coal. Then I normally press them over a knife either side of the score and they will snap cleanly.JD

Voski
My tongs have like saws on the edges so I just used that to make a small line and then they break right on the line.

garykainz
my roommate bought butter knives that are like freaking handsaws (i actually cut my finger with one of these butter knives) so i score it a lil' and it snaps nice. but the dust mess isn't an issue since i just do it on the porch anyway

teq
A chisel will probably give you the least amount of dust.
Sariél
I know I've written this up before, but I can't find the post. Today, Search is not my friend. I place the coal on a rug on my linoleum bathroom floor. A doubled over towel would probably also serve. Place a 1" Wood chisel straight vertical, and tap with a hammer. If you have a steady hand and perfewct 90 deg. it breaks perfectly even with no dust. Tkaes about 5 seconds, although I usually do up 4 or 5 sticks at a time just to save the time of finding my tools all the time. Or my GF asking what the hell I'm banging on at 4:30 AM...
