texas_mustang
So ive never owned a hookah before, just used friends'. anyway, i was driving around with my girlfriend this weekend and we stopped at a garage sale. I found this old hookah and bought it for 7 dollars. does anyone know what its worth? ive been polishing the brass and i cleaned the wood. Its about 3 feet tall and has no markings on it what so ever. sorry for the shitty pic, its from my cellphone.
mushrat
It's a traditional Indian hookah I believe. Probably worth about what you paid for it...
texas_mustang
well, i doubt its indian. my dads lebanese and so there is a lot of lebanese type stuff sitting around my parents house, and the engravings on the bowl are almost identical in style to some pitchers he got from saudi
Snoopy1966
It looks pretty cool, but it wont do you much good for smoking unless you go really old skool like Mush did. Great Decoration piece for sure!

texas_mustang
wait, so would you advise selling this hookah? or using it...whats a good way to clean it out? and if it leaks air is there a way to fix it?
r1v3th3ad
to fix leaks...JB Stick works goodI'd say give it a dishsoap cleaning and fire it up, if it doesn't smoke well, sell it
texas_mustang
okay man, thanks.any one have an idea how old it is? as i said, i cant find any type of identification markings.also, will any hose i order fit?
r1v3th3ad
looks like one of the early 20th century onesI dunno about hoses...you could just go to home depot and make one...just to be safe, instead of buying one and it not fitting
oolatec
The hose port looks pretty standard... the worst, you'd have to find a grommet that would work.I say keep it, but don't smoke from it. Makes a great conversation piece!
texas_mustang
haha yea, im taking it to college with me next year. but i really wanna use it... could it be dangerous to use? like... toxics from the metal? or what...

texas_mustang
alright mush, haha, you seem like the most respected on this fine forums.im assuming "dirt" is the link yall gave me, looks like a huge ball of shisha?and can i change the bowl to be more usable? i wanna be able to show it off but use it as well. ive also heard that smoking out of a brass hookah can be dangerous... any truth to this?thanks for all of yalls help. texas_mustang
what would make this pipe impractical?and what types of modifications?
teq
Well, besides the bowl needing to be switched out, I would think the brass would impart a discernable flavor into modern shisha. There doesn't seem to be a purge valve and I don't know how well that stem can be cleaned, either. texas_mustang
the bowl unscrews, and what does a purge valve do?
Bulldog_916
If you wanna go traditional, buy Zaghloul and put the coal directly on the shisha, that is how those hookahs work. Puff it, dont inhale. Take some of the smoke into your mouth, swish it like a mouth wash, then exhale.
Scoop
brass wont do anything to your tobacco flavor. however id just go pick up a "regular" hookah and just keep that for decoration
