Jblaze
I have a two hose stargate coming to me in the next day or two. I've only smoked out of my roommates egyptian hookah which only has one hose. I know how to basically set up a one hose hookah, but is there any special tips i should be aware of before i use my new one? Both in regards to a two-hose hookah or stargate in general? TIA. yashman19
I have a single hose Stargate, so I've never had experience with a 2hoser, but from what I hear the 2hose Stargate doesn't have autoseal, so this means that when you are not puffing on the hose, you must cap it with your thumb so the other person will be able to smoke. If you don't cap your hose, the other person trying to puff will suck air from your open hose. Some people like the autoseal, but others seem to prefer not having autoseal. People with autoseal claim that some autoseal hookahs constrict airflow, making it harder to pull on. As long as you warn people smoking your hookah to make sure they cap the hose while not smoking you should be golden. Congrats on your new purchase. What color did you get? Post some pics when you get it and share with the rest of us huh?

mushrat
well..you'll need a cork if you plan on smoking by yourself....
Jblaze
thanks for the help. How high are you guys filling your water? I got the 25" black nickel finish also. I almost bought the blue and silver one first, but then i found out it was light blue, so i went with the nickel instead. I've never seen a stargate in person; only pictures on this forum, so i figured black nickel would probabaly be the best looking one.
Jblaze
And i gotta say Taqseem has been really awsome, i've e-mailed him about his prices, and even changed my mind about colors at 2:30 AM and got a response within 30 min every time. yashman19
I fill my Stargates water level right below the plexiglass. So if you are looking at the chamber, right where the bottom of the plexiglass starts, I fill the water level just a tad below that. If you fill it any higher and suck too hard, you're going to have a problem with pulling up water into the hose. You'll get the hang of it though, don't worry. Jblaze
last question guys. I'll prolly be smoking 10-15g or so of AF at a time w/ my g/f. I have some 3 kings coals. Would using the big bowl be fine? Also how many coals? Is 1 and 1/2 a good amount?
[LB]
should be fine- roam around the forum to look for how to pack bowls and utilise charcoals properly.
methodical13
i recently got the exact same one, and with that big bowl I find one and a half coals to be the best amount. And like they mentioned, make sure you plug the hose you're not smoking since there is not autoseal...
mushrat
Hookah smoking seems to have this steep learning curve...you experiment a lot at first until you find the right combination and then ZOOM, you're a pro in no time.

Like packing the bowl for example. People have so many different techniques that work for them. But it is always nice to ask questions to be pointed in the right direction. As for the coals, 1 and a half seems to work well for people using 3Kings. Break them into halves, and spread them around the outside perimeter of the bowl. You'll find that you want to keep coals spread around the outside. When you place them in the middle, they tend to burn the ma'assel. I've noticed this especially with my coals (natural fingers). Jblaze
k One last question, then i'll be all set. If i do use 1 1/2 coals, and use halves since i'll have 3 peices around the outside, i don't have to worry about rotating or moving the coals around correct? I can just set them on once and just relax?
HookahDuck
its best to move them around every once in a while. Its easy if you are smoking with several people, as you can just give them a quick adjustment between turns

In order to keep the coals hot, ash them every 5 minutes or so just to keep them red hot. And when you ash them, just rotate them a smidge. Also depending on how large your bowl is, you might need to use more than 3 coals. If you have a bowl that should put out enough smoke to last you 45minutes to an hour, 1 1/2 3kings isn't going to be enough, just FYI.

I've only smoked Nakhla and 10-15g usually lasts me between 30-40 min usually. I've never used 3 kings or AF before... So basically just start off with the 1 1/2 coal, and then add more when those get small? Sorry for all the newbie questions, i really have been researching, lol. mushrat
Oh, your af will last as long if not longer than your Nakhla, I've often had my af bowls go 1 to 1 1/2 hours...just have to keep replacing my coals. For me the movement and replacement of the coals has become part of my smoking "ritual" if you will...my friend have likened it to a Japanese tea ritual on occasion. Jblaze
maybe i'll just start off with nakhala, just because i'm used to it. My g/f has never smoked before, so I just wanted to start with AF for a better experience. My roomie buys these really sh*tty syrian quicklites which stink up the whole house. Thats why i decided to pay more and go with the 3 kings instead. Between buying a hookah, a couple packs of AF, a box of coals, and a butane lighter, this is getting to be an expensive little hobby! I'm sure it'll be worth it though. If my 3 kings start running low, can i just put move them to the middle, and put a fresh coal on top of them to light it, and then move it to the edge? Or do i have to stop and go light another outside?
mushrat
Don't add a fresh unlit quicklite to your bowl, you'll get all the unpleasant chemicals they put in them to MAKE them quicklites...start up the new one outside and don't add it untill its all white and ready. And ya, its worth it.
