Scoop
I smoke at home and i feel like the ash is always flying around microscopicly so i bought an air purifier (insanely cheap deal).its not the best, its a 3m Ultra Clean http://www.amazon.com/3M-FAP02-RS-Filtrete...2739&sr=8-9it was only 25 bucks new so I had to buy it.I'm debating buying an Alen T300 hepa filter for my room but want to know before i fork over 300 bucks. (yes i know i can get like 4 hookahs instead but i prefer clean air, i live off a huge street in Los Angeles and the air is terribad). Anyone have experience with air purifiers and smoking hookahs, do the filters get dirty and clogged any faster? Voski
They should dirty faster then if you weren't smoking hookah. I always think that lounges should have them set up inside but hey thats just me.

Voski
Well it makes sense. If your introducing more particles in the air I fail to see how it would make no difference. I would be surprised if It didn't. Its more of a hypothesis.Lets say you didn't smoke and you had a purifier. It gets dirty at a rate of X.Now lets say you do smoke. It has to get dirty at a rate Y>X.
Scoop
lets say the smoke is glycerin, im hoping it doesn't cool on the air filter and clog full of glycerin

Consumer reports called them out on it and said it was bad for people to be around constantly, sharper image tried to sue and lost

As long as you clean it at its recommended intervals. Maybe a little sooner just incase.
r1v3th3ad
I would imagine it would clog it faster...my parents use one and its not too bad, but when times are that me or my dad are meditating, and we use candles and incense, it needs cleaned/changed filters a lot faster than normal
Scoop
the filter in both the t300 and this 3m would need replacing when they get really dirty. 3m says the filters are good for 3 months and the hepa filters from alen are good for about half a year. QUOTE Air Purifiers America conducted testing on several models of air purifier with a specialty laser particle counter to measure the percentage of particles removed from the air. Particles as small as 0.3 micros such as pollen, mold, dander and dust were measured with this device. The following numbers is the percentage of particles removed by the corresponding air cleaner. The higher the percentage, the better the air purifier is in removing dust, pollen, mold and pet dander. The "bladed" ionic breeze caught 30%. The Alen T300 caught 93%. DarkParade
yea but what happens when your system is out of date and they stop making the filters for it but i'm just being a painthe T300 sounds like a good deal
manic007
This happens a with coco-cha when there are people walking nearby, but I never noticed it with Nour/Abo Alabed. Have you thought about changing charcoal brands?Or what about using a windcover, I think that stops the ash moving around.I dont know how powerful air purifiers are, but if they're very power then they'll cause convection currents in the air that will transfer more ash into the air. So if you do buy one, you have to check for this, or only switch it on after you've finished smoking.
Scoop
I use exoticas right now, although i bought some abu hatim jap coals a few days ago for special occasions.the ash on the japanese ones is dense and black and never really floats away (the silver shit on them does but i start them in the on the stove anyway)wish the silver coals were a little cheaper, oh well what can you do.
