Majid
I read on a german forum some people claim you can microwave the coco coals (coco nara, cocobrico etc) Sounds like a bad idea, i wanted to check if someone knows something about it instead of ruining my microwave finding out. Any of you guys have experience with it?
thecoalition
i would assume that its a bad idea as igniting and microwaving are 2 entirely different things.
MechAnt
Well, Scalliwag did prove that you can microwave coals to get them started. Do a quick search.

thecoalition
im not doubting that it can be done. however, if you look at how a microwave works youll understand why doing that to coals is a bad idea.
Voski
Doesn't the thing your heating need water molecules for it to heat up?
MechAnt
In theory it does. Let me see if I can dig up that thread.
MechAnt
Here we go.http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?showt...microwave+coalsFrom what I know, it has to be dense enough otherwise it has a possibility of exploding. This coal exploded because it was not dense. Edited April 25, 2008 by MechAnt
teq
Yes, what happens is you'll get nasty sparks -- similar to what happens when you microwave metal. It won't harm the coals, and probably even get them burning, but it'll break the microwave over time. Voski
His response is hilarious... In the video when it starts exploding. But I don't think he was using coco coals. Which may respond differently?
MechAnt
Hahahaha"oh shit.....bad idea"Too funny. The coco coals are very dense and may respond well. Anyone willing to go out on a limb?

teq
I doubt density matters, as the microwave will heat it from the inside out. The result will probably be the same.
r1v3th3ad
could try them in foil for better heat

If i never post again, i expect an R.I.P thread.EDIT: Just tried it, started to stink real bad after a few seconds so i removed it. I'll try it again if i can do someething about the smell. Did heat up very fast though, after 10 sec it was hot enough to burn my finger. Edited April 25, 2008 by Majid

manic007
I think I'll stick to my gas cooker. However, I've found that I can heat charcoal much more quickly if I place a small grill ontop of one of the burners, then place the coal on that. As opposed to trying to balance it on the edge of a burner, which is really inefficient.

These coco coals are by far the best, longest and cleanest burning but a bitch to light. i'll check the local shops for something handy to use.
