Probably Bad Idea: Microwaving Coco Coals

Recommended Posts

I read on a german forum some people claim you can microwave the coco coals (coco nara, cocobrico etc) Sounds like a bad idea, i wanted to check if someone knows something about it instead of ruining my microwave finding out. Any of you guys have experience with it?

Yes, what happens is you'll get nasty sparks -- similar to what happens when you microwave metal.

It won't harm the coals, and probably even get them burning, but it'll break the microwave over time.

Too funny. The coco coals are very dense and may respond well. Anyone willing to go out on a limb?

send me a whole box of cocos and I'll do it in about a month up my cabin...where I'm outdoors with an old, expendable microwave

Here we go.

From what I know, it has to be dense enough otherwise it has a possibility of exploding. This coal exploded because it was not dense.

laugh.gif Oh shit. Maybe if i place/wrap them in something just in case that happens. If i never post again, i expect an R.I.P thread.

EDIT: Just tried it, started to stink real bad after a few seconds so i removed it. I'll try it again if i can do someething about the smell. Did heat up very fast though, after 10 sec it was hot enough to burn my finger. Edited by Majid

I think I'll stick to my gas cooker.

However, I've found that I can heat charcoal much more quickly if I place a small grill ontop of one of the burners, then place the coal on that. As opposed to trying to balance it on the edge of a burner, which is really inefficient.

Yeah i was thinking what i could use as a grill my self. These coco coals are by far the best, longest and cleanest burning but a bitch to light. i'll check the local shops for something handy to use.

Use one of these: http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?showtopic=20542

That way, you can just transfer the entire coil to the hookah.

You won't even have to use tongs if you mount a few handles on the sides.
