Help Me With Nakhla Sweet Melon

Recommended Posts

So I just opened a pack of Nakhla sweet melon a few days ago and so far it's been an epic failure. I haven't had problems with Nakhla for a while now, so I'm really baffled. Basically there is very little smoke from the baccy, and it's harsh most of the time. Any ideas what's wrong?

My set-up:
-large km with water + ice in the vase and ice chamber
-standard glazed egyptian bowl
-washable hose
-2 coconaras/bowl
-metal screen on top of reynold's hd foil

I tried:
-packing a lot, and packing a little
-small holes/lot of them and large holes/less of them
-adding a few drops of lemon juice to the bowl
-shiny side up and down
-acclimating for a couple of hours, stirring every half hour
-windcover on/off

I noticed if I don't put the metal screen on top of the foil the baccy starts automatically burning no matter how far from the centre the coals are. Any ideas? Everyone says it's an amazing flavor but I've had only shit sessions with it so far sad.gif

More Heat.

Try a 3rd piece of CocaNara.

I use 3 pieces of Exotica on my traditional bowl!

edit :- lol my 4,001st post and it's about Nahkla tongue.gif Edited by Johnny_D

3 coco's? ohmy.gif
i'll give it a try later on today...

as for the screen, it's not a proper shisha screen but just something to put on top of the bowl so that the coals don't fall off when i have to move them far away from the centre.

a metal screen AND tin foil? no, no, no! wink.gif

It's hard to explain... you know the the grill somebody posted a while back to help with heat management? Well, it's something like that. I'll try more heat and warm water tonight -- I've been using ice cold water before ohmy.gif

Erufiku, I hope you get it right!
My friends are annoyed that I consistently order Sweet Melon from the local lounge, they want something different! XD
Its a great taste.. like jolly ranchers <3
Try overpacking slightly..and use more heat, Nakhla loves heat =]

Thanks, I decided to give it a rest today and smoke Tangiers instead. But tomorrow... smile.gif

you're a jolly rancher...fucking sweet melon all the time dry.gif at least get it mixed with some mint tongue.gif nah i love tht stuff.

erufiku, try packing it loosely to the rim, by loosely i mean seperate the tobacco leaves, pack lightly to the rim and foil. when a particular nakhla flavor burns, i always do this and it seems to help. also, if your tobacco is too dry you could try adding some glycerin.

I don't think it's particularly dry, but then again it's not we either. Oily is the best word to describe it ohmy.gif
So, overpacking, packing lightly, underpacking, warm water, more heat... Trying all the variables should keep me occupied for a few days biggrin.gif I guess that's the beauty of this hobby though.

I pack it to the rim. Dont over or under pack it. When you hear the sizzle immediately, you know you did good. Naturals naturals naturals. Use them. Did I mention using naturals? tongue.gif

oh.. i thought that just mean the coal touched the tobacco.. i wasnt aware that it was good :s it sizzles all the time for me.

I thought sizzling was a bad thing ohmy.gif Looks like I was doing everything right... except for moving the damn coal when the tobacco began to sizzle dry.gif OK loading up some sweet melon right now.

NOT without foil, always with foil, small thumbtack sized holes all over, there shouldnt be a quarter of an inch in any direction without a hole in it. I cant get the stuff to smoke wrong, that's how you know it's good.

I donk know man, I smoke it over 10 times already and still not a single perfect session sad.gif
But that's the thing, sometimes if I can't get a flavor right I can smoke through a whole 250g without getting a perfect session. Like AW Orange Cream, bleh, still gives me a gag reflex just thinking about it sad.gif

Getting a really good session with Nakhla Melon + Mint mix. Trick was to use a *lot* of heat - 3 coconaras on a small-ish bowl. I thought it would just scorch the tabby but it's working perfectly - big bad Nakhla clouds.
Thanks everyone! smile.gif

I think it's one of the most flavorful out there at the moment. Not in all my time smoking shisha has that kind of flavor gotten to me. Even Tangiers has stiff competition from Nakhla in that regard. I dont remember ever being able to taste a flavor in my mouth, like I had just eaten some of it or drank a juice containing it. I got that with BOTH flavors that I recently bought. That, my friends, is consistency. I'm going to get more of them soon.
