r1v3th3ad
So, I've got some orange peels, and some shisha...I wanna put some into my mod florida orange loveshisha and into my suicide mix...the loveshisha, they gave me their leftover juices(I asked if I could have it since there wasnt much left) and I mixed them with some nice vanilla pipe tobacco and a plug of native american tobacco(nicotina rustica)...the stuff is great, but I wanna add the orange zest to it + to my personal leftover mixSo, to do orange zest, well...is it the white inside of the peel, or is it the exterior? seefoodlover
I use the whole thing. take some scissors and cut it up relatively small and just mix it up in there. not huge pieces, and not too small, just right...

iron molly black
The zest (where the oil and the flavor is) is the outside of the peel (the "orange" part). That's what's called for in recipes. For recipes, you grate the outside of the fruit with a small-sized grater, to get the zest off and to release the oils. If you find out you like the taste, might be worth picking one up at the dollar store.
r1v3th3ad
will do in the near future, thanks+
seefoodlover
I take the orange peel off the orange and then cut the peel. I find that if you grate, it is difficult not to get fruit in there, but I want to try that next.
mathuv
zest usually refers to the fine shaving/gratings of the outer peel.. just take a cheese grater to an orange be careful not to press to much as you might get some fruit stuck in there. Majid
If you want a nice orange zesty flavour, adding a tiny bit of Nakhla orange to the bowl will do very well. maybe 20% to a bowl and you're set.
thecoalition
zesting comes from the outside of the peels of fruits

seefoodlover
Be sure you use fresh orange peel. If you cut it up a couple of weeks in advance and store it somehwere, most likely, it will rot, and you will have to cut up another peel. Next thing I'm going to try is drying the orange peel, and smoking just orange peel. Got to find a fruit dryer first though...
r1v3th3ad
it was fresh and its in my shisha tub...hope it'll last till summer, if not, at least the flavor will hold
iron molly black
Just a bit of a caution--the white part of the peel is kind of bitter tasting, so you might not want to use that. You just want to get the orange part of the peel. This is in recipes, don't know how it translates to smoking it.
r1v3th3ad
used orange part only, thanks

I'm figuring that could taste kind of nasty/bitter, especially since there's a lot more pith (the white part) than zest in an orange peel. seefoodlover
if you scrape out the white part, that works too. Also, the point I was trying to make is that if you put it in the shisha and you expect it to last til summer, it probably won't. Unless your shisha has preservatives in it, IDK. All I know is that after much experimenting with orange peels, the longest I've gotten a batch of Orange peel to last is about 2 weeks max before it starts to rot/mildew/develop mold. I usually just put it in right before I smoke.

You can buy a zester for just a couple dollars at any grocery store. It's like a very small, very fine grater. And it's great for adding citrus flavor to anything.'Rani
