My local bar, in all of their authenticity, does not seem to grasp heat management on each of the shishas they offer.

It may just be the server I seem to usually get, but she will toss a their regular amount of coal on top and end up ruining the bowl because she doesn't know what's been packed in.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

From home tests, I'm actually starting to prefer shiny side up. I get longer sessions and better flavor without having to worry about managing the heat as much.

I do not see that much of a difference, I believe there was a post here some time ago that discussed the pros and cons of shiny side up and someone mentioned that there's only an 8 point difference between heat retainment. To me that is not a problem considering I use a wind cover which helps conserve heat, but, to each his own I guess.

I've noticed no difference to be honest. I did notice a diff between thin foil and thick foil, favoring the thick kind.

Shiny side up or Dull side up will not make a difference. If you are seeing one then you are not packing the bowl the same way every time or your heat management needs some work.

The whole shiny side only was created by some moron way back when that made up their own rumor.

So for the record, no I have never gone to a hookah lounge and told them shiny side up or else.

In my neck of the woods, it's said shiny side down "reflects heat back into the shisha".

So talk about disagreement, I dont think it matters.

yeah, i dont believe it would make a difference. maybe if the coal was inside with the tobacco, but thats not the case.

When I go to a lounge I need to order the most basic things or else it will take them forever to get me my hookah. But they always pack the bowls wrong or put WAY to many coals on there. This one lounge starts the hookah for you so by the time I can move the coals its already burnt!

I got an idea..how about you just don't post in a thread if you don't like the subject and not telling the mods and Admin what to do. This would save ME the trouble of removing off topic posts. and warming up the Hammer.

I have tried the foil both ways shiny up and shiny down and I really have noticed no difference. But if it works for you, go for it!
