roxmysox99
Okay i just got a small sized hookah. The thing is that when i got in the car and came home i forgot to get the hose plastic sealer so i gotta go there tommrow to pick one up, in the mean time i used my brothers hose seal. Well when i set it up to make sure it is airtight i sucked on the hose (with my hand on top of the bowl) and it would put a small vaccum on my hand. But when i realli sucked i could hear this REALLY small whistling noise so i looked closer at the bowl. I found out that there was a REALLY small hole in the bowl. Is this a problem? Should i exchange this bowl for another one?? Also how big is that vaccum suppose to be on my hand?? Thanks alot and try to reply ASAP -Maleeh-
yashman19
Try doing a air-tight test without the bowl on. Just cover up the stem with your hand. People do this to test the air tightness of the hookah itself. If you absolutely cant pull anything through, then you should be fine. I would only start to worry if you can hear a whistling sound coming from somewhere on your hookah. Now about the bowl... What do you mean there is a hole in it? Like the 5 holes in the middle where every bowl has holes? Or a hole somewhere on the side? Gotta explain better what your situation is. If it is a hole somewhere in the bowl that isn't supposed to be there, try wraping ductape around the hole, then take a lighter and hold it over the ductape. This will give you a solid fix-job until you can buy a new bowl. I have used this technique when I put cracks in my bowls. Give these a try and see if it helps. roxmysox99
Well on the bottom of the bowl where it connects to the hookah there is a slightly small hole that you cant even see till you really look close. Its not realli a hole but some parts of the clay and really molded together so the air can get through that. You only hear that whistling noise when i realli suck hard on the pipe and i can hear it at the bottom of the bowl. I can exchange this bowl for another one tommrrow because they gave me a bad bowl. Should i exchange it? What do you mean by "If you absolutely cant pull anything through, then you should be fine." With the bowl off i tested the hookahs air tightness and it is a stonger vaccum but i can still pull my hand off the hole.
yashman19
I think if you have the opportunity to exchange the bowl for a perfect one, then definately do it. The ductape was just a quick fix if you were desperate. What I meant by not being able to pull anything through is that when you are covering the stem with your hand and sucking through the hose, you shouldn't be able to pull any air through. Ofcourse you should be able to pull your hand off the stem, but the important part is that when your hand is covering it, you shouldn't be able to suck any air through. roxmysox99
When i suck on the hookah while covering the hole i can still pull air... what do i do. i have done everything i am suppose to.. i think!!
gunsboy
Just bring it back and I suggest replacing it with another kind/design. Once a design has that many flaws, you will rarely get a good one that you could depend on.
roxmysox99
I found where another air leak was. It was were the shaft connects to the glass base. The base grommet was not big enough to make that seal tight so i switched it out with my brothers and now when i suck on the place that the hose goes into there is an air tight seal. So all i gotta get now is a new base and a hose grommet which i will be getting in a couple of hours. Thanks For All Of Yalls Help. -Maleeh-

roxmysox99
Well i fixed everything.. i got a new bowl, then at where the shaft and the base meet the rubber gromet wasnt big enough so there would always be a little air leak there, so i got teflon tape and tapped it with that a couple layers so there would be no air leak and it worked perfectly.I cant find a hose grommet for my mini hookah so i used the ones made for bigger hookah hoses and it kinda works but its really hard to put in. Kinda a pain in the but but its all good. So do i need that grommet or can i put the hose straight in with out the rubber piece??I was thinking about getting a new hookah (a big one) from the place down the street (Some arab cafe/grocrey store that has LOTSSS of hookahs) because i love my small hookah soo much.-Maleeh-

Electrical tape if you dont know is that black tape that sort of feels rubbery. Just keep putting on layers or take off layers until you get a nice, solid fit. And also, whats the name of the grocery store that you can buy hookahs from? And also where are you located? Just wondering because I get some of my supplies at the "Medeteranian Market" in Sacramento Ca, just sounded sort of familiar
roxmysox99
Theres this place in houston called "Adam's" and its the best place for food and hookahs. They also dont have age limits on the hookahs so if your under 18 you can still buy them. Its really tight. Well i am going there tomorrow to get a bigger hookah but i am confused becasue they have 3 hose hookahs but i dont think i will use three hoses at once for friends so should i just get a nice one hose hookah instead.Tommorrow i am getting:1 Hose Groummets1 Bowl1 Large HookahBTW "Yashman19" if i wrapped the groummet in teflon tape should i switch it out for electrical tape.. The teflon tape makes a perfect fix and nothing seems to be wrong with it. Should i switch to electrical tape??

Also, did you wrap teflon tape over the grommet? So the tape is actually touching the glass base when you put the stem in? Just wondering how you are setting it up because when I use electrical tape on mine, I take the stem grommet off, then wrap a few layers of electrical tape on the metal part of the stem, then put the grommet back over the electrical tape. I've noticed that a lot of places that sell hookahs will use electrical tape to make the hookahs fit better before people buy them. Both of my egyptains actually had electrical tape under the stem grommets. Oh well, it works great.
roxmysox99
well i put the grommets on and then teflon tape around it and then i held up a lighter to it so the edges would melt into some smoothness so when i take the stem off the base the teflon tape doesnt come off. But if you ever have any trouble with it in the future like the teflon wears out, try the method I mentioned earlier, by putting electrical tape underneith the rubber grommet so that its on top of the metal stem. Like I said, this is how a lot of my hookahs came, just to make sure the stem fit properly in the base. But if you do happen to find a new grommet that fits your hookah without any need for tape of any sorts, then cheers!
