Tangiers: Another "help Me" Thread

Recommended Posts

Ok here is my own "Help me" thread, which i hope will greatly help others. You might be thinking "OMG enough, its like beating a dead horse! Just do a search" And you might be right, but this is my dead horse, and it smells and smokes like BBQ sauce.

This was my recent attempt at packing Tangiers cool strawberry. It has been acclimated for a full 24 hours and stirred to get all the juices goin. It had a scent of strawberry, but nothing potent like Starbuzz might have.

Following the Noob packing method, i packed the funnel

Then proceeded to follow a bit of MDL's thread and pressed down the tobacco w/ the funnel now (didnt budge much).

Then followed a bit of Rayver's foil poking method/design. I also tried the big fat meaty holes posted in MDLs thread as well, but the result was the same.

I used basically 2 x 1/4 exoticas only cut each one in half, 4 x 1/8s.

The result was actually a smooth smoke session, but no flavor. Ive packed another bowl even MORE packed to the point where i had some tangiers cooked on to the foil. Again, no flavor and smoke was a bit harsh.

I have watermellon and orange soda acclimated and ready to smoke perhaps tomorrow or wednesday. This is a new batch as the tobacco is a smaller cut it seams. I just wanted to get some quick input and mabey someone can point out a blaring problems.

Ive had some great help thru PMs, so i wanted to post pics to help explain visually what im doin and how im followin directions.

Thanks for the help guys!!

From the picture, you can pack more tobacco in and maybe have one cube less of coal. Try that out. Make sure the weather you acclimated it in is similar to the one you are smoking in.

Refer to Snoopy's guide in his sig. The only flavorless/the faintess possible Tangiers i've had was Brambleberry.

From the picture, poke more BIGGER holes, toothpick size is optimal.

Tangiers is the best when it gets going, period.

Ok it seems the consensus is that i need to pack MORE shisha into the bowl. But if that is the case, then the foil is practically resting ON the shisha. Is that the goal?

I spoke with Eric last week and he says that ROUGHLY, i should be packing about 45-50g of shisha into a med funnel. That would really stack the bowl high enough to where the coal + foil will be sitting right on the shisha.

When you guys are done with the bowl, is there shisha burnt to the foil?

Tangiers is a STAPLE BRAND! How the hell can you not like tangiers? At first I didnt care to much, only because it was my fault and I wasn't packing it right though. Its amazing!

tangiers is just a waste.. IMO dont even bother. just go with a good staple brand..

Yes, the foil is supposed to be pretty much resting on the shisha. Also, when making the divot in the foil, do it harder so that you can see the hole in the center imprinted in the foil.

Honestly people, shisha touching the foil is NOT a bad thing period! I pack my bowls full all the time (not overpacked mind you!) and I haven't yet had a bad smoke.

See that explains so much. Im so used to smoking starbuz & AF where if the temp gets a tad bit to hi, then the bowl gets harsh and burns the shisha. Whenever i packed Sb or AF to high, it would crisp and taste like asshole.

I guess tangiers differs in that way.

If you guys could mabey post a pic of your foil after a smoke, that would explain even more.

Thanks again for the help guys. I hope im not the only one learnin sumtin.

Pack it loose to where a literal half inch of shisha is sitting above the rim. Lay the foil over the shisha and then press it down to where the foil is indented in the bowl. Poke some monster holes with a kabob skewer all over the place. Put on 2 count em, two 1/4ths of a natural finger on a small funnel, 3 on a medium. Smoke away.

i am currently smokeing my first bowl of tangeirs and i followed rayvers vid almost to a tea. Its melon blend 9 which seems to me a watermellon wich im not particularly fond of watermellon flavors, too candy sweet for me, but it seems nice and mellow for a watermellon. Anyways back to packing bowls. so far im finding that its not how much to pack into the bowl, its more of trying to get an even pack with a good seal around the edge of the bowl. then after packing slightly to where the shisha is at the very top of the bowl lay on your foil and press down slightly jusst so that when smokeing you dont char the shish to the foil, which leads to a harsh burned tast. Use large holes in an even patern, bulls eye is my staple patern but experiment till you get it right.

sofar the bowl has smoked pretty good, the smoke is reasonably thick and the tast is there but not too potent, which is good because overpwoering watermellon is like strawberry, to much flavor and it will make me gag. the only thing i would tweek is to but a littlebit more shisha in and pack just a little bit more untill the shisha is just at the tip top of the bowl, and then use the press down method to make shure there is a little bit of a gap between the tabacco and the foil. so far tangeirs is a pretty good tobacco, i just whish mellon blend 9 was more of a cantalope mellon such as the nakla version which is outstanding. i also wish eric made a pomagranet wich is a houshold favorit.

good luck i hope this helps Edited by Place_Name_Here
