Al Fakher Grape, Apparently It's Not Over Folks

Recommended Posts

The topic says it all, I got a shipment containing AF Grape, and it reeks of that aroma we all know and hate as ketchup ass. Since I know you'll ask, the mfg date was Jan 08, so the whole "if it's not aug 07 then you're cool" business seems to not apply...unless I'm unlucky. Just throwing the warning out there for grape lovers, maybe you're taking less of a gamble with a different flavor.

What kind of hookah are you using?

I've noticed with smaller hookahs, you do not taste flavs from shisha that well and you only get some flavor and it makes it taste COMPLETELY different.

I bought a tub of AF Grape (Nov 2007) and I was smoking it out of my nou nou b4 I got my KM.

With the Nou Nou, I was like "OMG! this tastes like garbage and ketchup!"

Since it smelled and tasted funky, I let it air out for 3 days and its potency was gone and it smelled normal. I tried it out with my Nou No again and the taste didn't change.

Hah but now that I have my KM, I tried out the last of the AF Grape I had (so many "failed" bowls, but I love the flav so I was trying to make it work)

Guess what? With that tub on my km, AF GRAPE TASTED NORMAL! I was like... "Wtf?!"

Just try to the flav with a taller hookah and maybe it will help. Airing out will do good too Edited by JillyIsJustKidding

No man, I'm telling you. I've had good grape. This was evident the instant I opened the seal on the top of the tub, not a smell I had to stick my nose in and work for. I don't even have to smoke it to know, it's that evident. I've been doing this for over a year and have enough braincells to decipher the crucial differences between grape AF and a rotting raccoon lodged in the ass of a hobo swimming in ketchup. I'm smoking out of a KM, but I won't even pack a bowl of this shit to learn that I need a more thorough cleaning because it tastes like it smells. Don't believe me if you want, I wouldn't make this up to be a troll.

EDIT: To verify that my nose isn't broken, I took 3 people from my house and told them "give this grape a whiff, man I love this smell". The first two gagged and handed it right to me, and the third (my brother and biggest smoking buddy in the world) launched it into the trash can and said "I know you wont smoke this shit, I definitely won't if you're crazy enough to...what the hell". So yeah. Edited by Itami

Itami, so you didn't even try to smoke it?

AF grape has always had a vaguely ketchupy smell, I assume because they use the same artificial flavouring ingredient that we are familiar with in ketchup. I don't think ketchup is very common in the Middle East (confirm? deny? I know it's very uncommon in Latin America), so the producers at Al Fakher wouldn't relate it to that.

Anyway, it's always tasted great for me, very grapey, even if the smell is somewhat reminiscent of ketchup. Edited by gaia.plateau

It's not like you stick your nose in there and realize "Oh, this is grapeish but has this ketchup taste to it". It gagges people. 5 now, 6 including me, feel almost nauceous after getting a whiff of it. I'll try smoking it I guess to see if that changes anything, and I've left it airing out and nothing's changed. It's immediate and slams you as soon as you draw it up to your face. Again, I've had al fakher grape that was good and smelled ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like this at all. But I guess the consensus is that I'm crazy and that my olfactory nerve is damaged. I can live with that I guess.

Yeah, I could have told you that AF Grape tastes like ketchup-ass, or as I describe it, rancid ketchup. It's too bad... I haven't bought any AF since that fateful summer day in '06...

you've got to be kidding with that comment! reputable vendors actually smell their stock b4 they buy it.
1. Af's new packaging doesn't allow the smell to come through.
2. Most vendors buy through other distributors who get their product shipped to them from the exclusive distributor in CA. There is no smelling process involved.

Who told you that reputable vendors "smell" the product b4 they buy it, please post that info.

How many menbers here have purchsaed af in the last year, can you smell anything when it's closed.

I still can't get over that comment. what else did the reputable vendors you are referring to convice you of.

Let me stop, I am not attacking you personally, I just think that comment is way off.

Yes there is a problem with AF's grape consistency but it has nothing to do with which vendor you buy from. Edited by erbaz
