Mapp/propane Torch To Start Coals?

Recommended Posts

ok so i know a lot of people use butane pocket torches but does any one use propane or mapp torches?

mapp kind of has a sulferish smell when its burned but i didnt pay much attention and usually wear a respirator when i am using a mapp torch so im not sure how clean it burns off.

i think i saw some one that had a pic up with a propane torch next to their hookah.

so does any one use this, i assume it would be very efficient but does it burn off clean, do you need to let the coals burn for a few mins after?

also if you do this do you just hold the coals with tongs or do you put them in/on something?

I use a propane torch. I just light them and put them on the bowl no waiting. Depending on how long your coal takes to light you can use tongs. After one coco-Nara I need to cool the tongs with water. You can put them in those ceramic dishes that collect water from pots or a brick.

when im smoking someplace I can't use my electric burner i use a propane torch. With my cast iron cauldrons i just put some coals in it and hit it directly with the torch.

when i was living in the dorms at college, using a propane torch was the best way to be completely portable. used it for like 2 years before it ran out. its really a good way to go if you want to be portable and backpack your ish. the propane tanks are cheap too, like $9 at a hardware store. its safe as anything.

now on the other hand some friends of mine told me of how a while back when they had no way to light coals they ended up using axe deoderant spray and a lighter once. well aware of how bad an idea that was, they said it tasted like.. well im sure you can imagine how bad it tasted.

i hope you were not paying 9 bucks for one propane tank.

ok, thanks for the replies everyone, ill just grab one of the propane bottles with my torch when i get my hookah, already have the torch (its a nice one button push to turn on and light at the same time and is wicked hot compared to my dads old twist on and light with something else which while i was working on a large project the tip fell off due to the heat).

thanks
