Question About Length Of Session....

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty new to Hookah smoking and have a question...

I smoke briar pipes using quality tobacco, and in that field of smoking it is ok to leave a pipe for hours on end (overnight even) and start smoking again.

Can you leave a Hookah until the coals have burnt out - and then start it off again a few hours later? I am wondering about this because sometimes when I smoke Hookah alone - I don't really want to be puffing away for two hours or more in one session.....

it will vary with the tobacco and the type of bowl. usually if you are using a standard egyptian bowl you'll burn through most of the shisha in less then 1.5 hours. if you have a phunnel and good quality tobacco, you can often restart it later. you might need to remove some of the burnt stuff first and add a bit of fresh shisha, but for the most part it should be ok.

It is when I am using my Mya bowl that I get over two hour smokes, with good thick smoke. Using 5 or 6 QL coals. I am smoking AF tobacco. Sometimes I would prefer to leave it for an hour or so, and then come back to it.

It is just personal preference, I don't mind relighting. I don't even lift up the foil to check how much I smoked, I just throw another coal on. If you don't want to re-use a bowl of shisha you can always just pack less tobacco into the bowl before you start. By no means does the bowl have to be full to smoke properly.

If you want to use QL's the general consesnus around here is 3 Kings, Goldens, or even Japanese silver coals. I would hope 5 or 6 coals aren't all on there at once. For my average sized bowl I use 1.5 Goldens when I use QL's (and that's just because I have so many I have never ordered 3 Kings even though some people review them higher). But 5 or 6 coals at once should be scorching your shisha...

I put one on to start - then when that is half gone - add another. I then keep it going with 1 1/2 on all the time (ish).
