r1v3th3ad
so, fall of '04...my senior yr in high school. My parents went to Hawaii for a week and left me the car. My buddies and I heard of a place called Dixmont Insane Asylum. The back story we heard about it was that it originally was an asylum for the criminally insane back in the 1800s. Prisoners revolted and took over, lots of lives lost. Sometime in the early 20th century it was turned into a hospital for tuberculosis, I believe(not sure of the type of treatment center)...then was closed from Asbestos. We decided to give it a shot. We rode out and parked down the street from the place. We walked the property slowly, listening and looking. We came upon a building and thought it was it, but was really small. My buddies checked it out, nothing...was just a guard post we believe. We finally got to a big opening with two very large buildings. They had overhangs( walkways in the air from building to building). The building on the right was the one that housed the "patients". It was five stories tall with boards on all windows but one on the ground floor. Building on the left was the multipurpose building with a gym, cafe, and on another time there we discovered a little room with a cage and a chair in it... we walked to the edge of the property that was holding these buildings, stopping every ten feet to listen. We heard blood curdling screams, crying, doors slamming, footsteps...the works. The thing that freaked us out the most was when we reached the end. We heard a music box playing throughout the buildings and property(at the time we couldn't figure out what the music was, thought it was some sort of bell). We went into the building on the right, heard the same commotion...footsteps upstairs and screams...searched throughout and found no one. We found the rumored room that some guard died in, blocked with a bloody mattress that could not be moved. Upon leaving, a few of us saw a blue apparition. I came back a second time with them a few days later and entered the second building through one of the airwalks. We found the building sealed from asbestos, but the seal had been broken sometime in the early 90s(we could tell from old pepsi cups indoors). I could see the asbestos in the air, so I used my shirt as a mask. Felt many eerie cold spots, but the worst was the cage room.My buddies returned without me a night later. Upon leaving they were greeted by the police...They almost got trespassing charges among other things, but the cop asked "what are you guys doing here? Ghost hunting, huh?" My buddies told them that was all they were up to, he said that if he catches them there again, they will be locked up and fined, and to spread the word to others.Recently, the whole property was leveled for a walmart, but none is up. The land wont settle and is constantly sliding...walmart backed out. I theorize the spirits are pissed that they disturbed their resting place. For more info about the walmart part, look up pgh news about landslides on Rt. 65otherwise, Dicksmont is on Pa haunting sites...here is one link http://theshadowlands.net/places/pennsylvania.htmits listed under Emmsworth - Dixmont Mental Institution I've been to a lot of "haunted" places before, this was the creepiest and definitely haunted
Jeff_T
That sounds like an awesome, thrilling and scary experience. I would love to visit some place like that and encounter the "eerieness". I have friends that talk about experiencing something "paranormal" or ghost like, but nothing for me. The house I previously lived in, for about 8yrs, had two of the kids (i think teenage and late adolescent) that were killed in the 60's during a break in type situation. While living there I had no experiences whatsoever. My mom said a few times she thought she saw someone walking down a hallway heading to the bedrooms. Maybe I'm not paranormal material? iron molly black
Yes, some people definately are more sensitive to paranormal experiences than others. And some stuff is sensitive to a certain time, or may appear to a certain type of person. That being said, in my opinion, there are different types of paranormal stuff as well. Ghosts or spirits, which are just residuals of people who actually lived, and then entitities, who have never lived, and somehow manage to come through into this dimension. I view ghosts or spirits as basically harmless. Entities, on the other hand, are not. They need to feed on energy to stay here. Including yours, if you are careless enough to let it happen. They do not play nice. Places that have seen a lot of turmoil have a lot of residual energy, as do certain landscape features. *sigh* There's other stuff out there, too, but I guess I don't want to write a book here!Leave it to say I would be very, very careful seeking out paranormal stuff without protecting yourself psychically, it can be exremely dangerous. I personally never seek out paranormal stuff. I've experienced a whole lot of things, some good, some really, really bad, not of my choice.
