PuRecHi
Alright, here's what I've got:- Mya QT- Coco-nara coals- Medium tangiers phunnel bowl (god damnit, I dropped & broke it tonight. time to order a new one).- Scali mod (I actually have Smiley's glass mod, same thing I believe).- Tangiers Mixed FruitAlright, well. The smoke started to get harsh and I can't figure out why but I can speculate. The leading reason for harsh smoke that I've come across is putting too much heat. I had two coals on the edge opposite of each other and I figured since it was getting harsh I would remove one of the coals. I do this and it's still harsh - along with less thick clouds. So I'm not sure what the problem is.. Is it possible that maybe the shisha and the aluminum foil were in contact causing it to burn? Maybe that's the reason - I'm not sure. Do I need to be sure that they aren't making contact, because I thought it was acceptable when using a phunnel bowl. Or maybe it's possible that I packed it wrong? I made sure to simply place the shisha in the bowl and not to pack it down. Placed the foil on top and made two circles (via use of a paperclip). Followed by lightly blowing some air through the bowl through the base of the bowl. Not sure what I've done wrong, and I know I'd learn with time - but it'd be a lot faster just to get help here, haha. Thanks.
Texico
First thing I'd say is don't use the glass mod with Tangiers. Any experts care to chime in? Also, snoop just posted some great videos on how to get Tangiers to smoke. Check those out.
NickReppinThe909
PUT LESS COALS ON THE BOWL !!!!! seriously though is it acclimated ? are you packing the phunnel tightly ? poking lots of big holes ?this might help alsohttp://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?showt...rs+noob+packing
Kusk
If it's still harsh after taking off one coal, the shisha itself might be burning instead of charring. Check for tendrils of smoke coming from the bowl itself between hits. A bit of smoke immediately after a hit is normal. More, steadier smoke usually means that the shisha is burning. If it is burning, take off both coals to cool it down for a minute. Then, rotate coal positions when you put them back on. (i.e., from 12 and 6 o'clock position to 9 and 3 o'clock.)Of course, I'm guessing. I don't have either tangiers or a phunnel bowl (Oh god I want both). But, whether the shisha touches the foil doesn't really matter since many like to pack the bowl all the way up to the rim.
Deathwish238
If it starts to get harsh you must IMMEDIATELY rotate the coals. The longer you wait, the higher chance of the shisha actually burning and starting to mess up the whole bowl. 2 coals shouldn't be too much. I like to rotate coals every 10-15 min.If you think the shisha is already burning and you notice rotating doesn't help(should be better within the next few drags) then take the coals off and let the bowl cool way down. Maybe the couple times I've tried it I messed up on packing around it, but that thing cuts down on airflow like 80%, it was damn near impossible to get any kind of draw while using it. And I'm not poking "big" holes. I'm taking a paperclip and forming two circles of holes. One around the perimeter of the bowl and another in the middle.Maybe what I need to do is just take the coals off the bowl for a few minutes and let it cool down. I think that's the best thing I can do. I'll try it today. Thanks you guys.
Tikhman
Since its Tangiers you need to pack it down real hard. also many large holes will make things better.
OC4111
I've been told the mod is not to be used when smoking Tangiers. I'm having a flavor issue with Mixed fruit. Does your batch smell like mixed fruit. I've had my acclimating for a while now and when I checked it this morning it hardly smells like fruit.I had a session the other day and was getting good smoke with 1/2 a stick of exotica broken up into 2 pieces but was getting no flavor. SimplexCoda
YA you need way more than two cirlces of holes. There needs to be like a gillion holes, litterally.

When you use it your not supposed to pack as much just kinda drop it in to fill the bowl but don't pack it down. With the mod the air flows to the bottom, so if you got too much shisha in there, then naturally it's going to restrict airflow.

It started to get harsh so I immediately rotated them, but it was still harsh so I took the advice and took them off the bowl for a few minutes and put them back on. For a short period it was good, but next thing I know it's getting harsh again. Does this possibly mean that 1 and a half coal(s) would be sufficient? Or maybe I'm packing it wrong? Not too sure..I'm keeping the coals on the edge opposite each other and what-not. Using thick reynolds foil.Dunno.
aldonb1
make sure you are using quite large holes. I believe eric (mr. tangiers) uses an oyster fork and just covers the entire bowl in holes. (anyone feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.)
