Ralleac
Eh. Well, my friends were evicted from their place 7 months back because two of their roommates couldn't pay rent. I let two of them crash at my place for free with the understanding that I wouldn't charge them so they could have a new apartment a.s.a.p. since they were lucky enough not to be on the lease of the eviction.Well, 7 months later and they don't have the money. In similar circumstances I earned well over $4,000 just working part-time and going to school full-time while living with my folks... To top it off, one of them won't do the dishes (he uses just about all of mine,) and they don't really clean up after themselves. I tried asking them to at least pay rent, but they won't even work enough hours or get another job to be able to afford that. I'm on the verge of working two jobs and going to school, myself, so it's very frustrating. It's been bad enough that I don't really like living in my own apartment anymore. I feel like I'm playing a "parent" role to two 21 year old guys, and I'm fed up with it.At this point I don't really want to talk about it. I gave them 2-3 weeks to figure something out and then I'm physically removing them and their property. If they screw anything else up in between now and then I won't wait. He actually has a place lined up, although he's been cool enough here that I wouldn't mind if he paid rent and stayed. The other I don't know yet. He's probably pissed, but he brought it on himself by being irresponsible. I told him a while ago and haven't spoken to him since, and I'm waiting for another friend to come over so we can smoke some hookah.

He isn't a roommate, he's just a freeloader I was trying to help out. He'd probably just shove it off to the floor and further damage the place. punkonjunk
Living with friends can be a lot of fun, but you need to know how to put your foot down, and hard. Break some of his shit, threaten to evict him, something serious so he thinks your not a total push over. Otherwise he'll leach on you until you're run dry, and ALSO evicted like his last roommate, and then he'll move on.
Majid
If you're motivated, by a few weeks you'd have work and a place to stay. The rest is just mooching.
r1v3th3ad
just remember(I've seen this so many times on the dif. court shows on tv)...you have to officially evict him, give him 30days(i believe)...he's been there so long now that it is a situation where you have to go through an official process, even though he's not on the lease and is freeloading...its a load of crap, and thats what we call the U.S. Justice System.... He doesn't have any way to prove he's been living here. I can have all of his property (basically a cheap futon mattress and two boxes) at a friend's house (or even his mom's house if I have to) in like an hour, and at that point there is nothing he could say or do to convince an officer that he's been living in my apartment. No keys, no mail, and no one who'd be willing to vouch for him. His home address is in another city as far as the government is concerned, and he receives mail there regularly through his parents. He hasn't protested since I told him, though. Edited May 5, 2008 by Ralleac

It was supposed to be a couple of weeks and ended up being SIX MONTHS! And on top of it, they were disrespectful of me and my property. They couldn't prove they had a right to live there. No bills in their name, no lease, no receipts for rent, no mail delivered. As far as I was concerned, they were guests who had overstayed their welcome! Court TV isn't how it goes in real life, that's for sure!
