drfefe2
So I ran out of charcoal and I decided to try my luck at the local harware store. I purchased a 20 pound bag of 100% natural hardwood charcoal, Big Green Egg brand. It looks exactly like Roman Lemonwoods, big chunks of wood charcoal. I lit a piece with a campstove untill it was compleatly red all around and placed it on the hookah, it worked great for 5 minutes, no taste at all. Then the coal just went out. I didn't stop hookahing, it didn't get knocked over, It just died. I thought it was a bad piece or somthing so I tried another piece. Same thing happned, it would not stay lit.Wtf? I have taken sticks out of campfires and had great hookah sessions with them. Why wont these stay lit?I tried taking the bag back to the store but they would not accept it. Please help, I dont want to waste 20 bucks.-Jackson Agar
r1v3th3ad
trying leaving it in the "lighting" stage for about 10-15mins to be sure that its lit all the way through
mushrat
Flip the coal regularly so the down side doesn't get smothered by laying flat on the foil. This is why i don't use bulk charcoal.
AKammenzind
Yeah, flip it quite frequently. Helps prevent too much ash building up on top of the bowl, and keeps them from bring smothered. I've found that it works well to pile them up too, so that they can all have some decent airflow beneath/beside them.
HKJON
Haha, you can always invite your friends over for a bbq. I used to sell BBQ equipment and supplies, and would sell the olive and lemon wood charcoal for grilling along side the oak, mesquite and hickory. Although you tried Big Green Egg for smoking hookah, it is best used for meat!
