seefoodlover
If auto seal is not a ball bearing, then what is it??? It can't be a ball bearing because you are able to purge. Somebody please explain....
mushrat
It's a ball bearing inside the hose port. when you suck on that hose...the ball gets pulled up into the port and you get smoke, though it does tend to restrict the air flow a bit. When someone else hits the other hose, it pulls the bearing down to block the hole into the stem, thus keeping the air from flowing back from the autosealed hose. It's a simple thing but most makes tend to restrict the air flow too much for my tastes. The Mya are the only ones I've found that work half decently. seefoodlover
But I don't have a double hose. Is there no auto seal on a single hose?
NickReppinThe909
use an airsoft bb for an easier pull and why would you need auto seal on a single hose ? Edited May 10, 2008 by NickReppinThe909

seefoodlover
then how does a single hose stay air tight? I understand there is a ball bearing on the purge, I guess what I'm asking is how does a single hose stay airtight.
ilikemyusername
you have one right?, it may have something to do with those rubber grommets (seals) that go between (starting from the top) the bowl and the stem, the stem and the hose, and the stem and the base. you do have grommets right?is your hookah airtight?are you having problems with a leak?if so, plug one end of your hose with your finger and blow, if your hose is airtight, move onto the next stepplug your hose into your hookah, take the bowl off put the palm of your hand on the stem where the bowl went, inhale through the hose. does it make a succion? if not you have a leak coming either from the base grommet or the hose grommet. to test these, take the hose out, take the bowl off, put the palm of your hand on the hole the bowl goes on and put your mouth on the hose port(the place the hose goes into) and inhale.if you're getting air in the hookah, most likely its the base grommet, if not it's a leaky hose grommet although it could be a crack or hole somewhere in the stemcheck your hookahfind out if theres a problemauto seal is for multiple hose pipes only

Is there no auto seal on a single hose?no..there is no need for an autoseal on a 1 hose hookah. Its designed so if you have a 2 or more hose hookah you don't have to cork off the other ports when you arent using them and if you are using more than 1 hose the other people don't have to cover the end of their hoses with their thumbs when the other people hit. I understand there is a ball bearing on the purge, I guess what I'm asking is how does a single hose stay airtight. The purge valve is sealed when you are inhaling. It only opens when you blow in to purge the hookah. There is no reason for the hose to be "air tight" on a single hose because it's the only hose being used to smoke. Alademuerte
Heh, I think everyone else explained it well enough..My Mya hose adaptor for my 2 hose came with the ball bearing auto seal... But I took it out because it's easier to teach people to just put their finger over the hose and all when not being used...But that was with Mya hoses and all.I just got a Nammor, so I put the auto seal back in for my hose since it's so much more enjoyable to just sit back on my end and let my friends do the work with purging if needed and capping the hose and all. indian_villager
The only purpose of the auto-seal is so that people don't have to thumb their hoses when smoking. If you are smoking with people that get the etiquette you have no need for it but if not it comes in handy. Hell if you want you can ghetto rig one with the use of one of those mouth tips and an airsoft bb. I remember reading about it somewhere on this forum. If its a single hose there is no need.
