thugacation
what do you guys think the best way is to go about cleaning the hoseIm not sure whether there is anything in my hose that can be damaged by water what i usually find works good, is to take the hose outside and smack it against the wall, which breaks up dirt inside which may be stuck to the walls of the pipe and then blow outyou actually see crap coming out
HookahGuru
I always take lukewarm water in my mouth and blow it threw my hose like a straw, idk if this will mess up ur hose but mine workes fineI just do it a few times till the water comes out clean Edited May 10, 2008 by HookahGuru

thecoalition
thug...you sound like you have a hose with the metal looping inside to give it that rippled effect. that "dirt" you see is actually rust and is terrible for your lungs. It is time for you to throw some money in for a new hose. I would suggest a nammor or razan. Even a mya washable.

NUBBS
You can get 2 hoses for $9.50, and they're pretty cool too. Not fancy, but functional at a website that the administrators do not allow. Ill pm the link to you.

*HOT&SMOKING*
Best way IMO to clean a non-washable hose, is to hold one hand on each end ( under the connection bits, so they don't break) and then to knock the hose against itself over and over and then blow it out....However this works for getting the rubbish out, but if you are getting rust out, it is probably worth it to buy a new hose.....My hose that I got with my hookah, I never washed, and after maybe 20 smokes when I used this method rust came out....so it doesn't always depend on the washing but what quality non-washable hose you got.-H&S
thugacation
Nick dont worry, I'm too lazy to do it myself anywayand i'd probably mess it up lolDamn, so I need a replacement?but the weird thing is, that i've been able to clean it out while it was pretty new as wellI didnt even know about branded pipes before I got on this siteI'll try and find myself a cheap nammor one (if anyone knows where to go in UK, holla)
liquidglass
it honestly doesn't matter the "quality" of the hose, if there's metal wire inside to keep the shape of the hose then it's going to rust, no washing needed. Because when you pull in water is going to get in, not a lot but moisture will get into the hose, when you're pulling in, and when you're purging the base. Hoses honestly don't last that long without going rusty on you. Recommendation:a) get a washable hose (washable mya or nammor/razor) make your own washable hose from a rusted hose (in the how to funhouse) c) get a leather hose that doesn't contain any metal at all.
