the open beta is now over but it was open to anyone
the graphics are pretty intense on it and will be the breaking point for alot of people who want to play it
im running it fine on my setup but its high end. alot of people with low-lowmid range pc's are having issues running it at a decent framerate.

I've been in the closed beta for a few weeks, love it, got the 3-days early access with preorder so I'll be 20+ at launch.

I'll be playing a Cimmerian Dark Templar named Hungus, on the RP-PVP server.

Regarding playability I have a dual core 3ghz with a 9600gt 512mb card and 3gb DDR2 ram, can run mid-low settings at 50fps, but it'll run better for me on the official client. Edited by gaia.plateau

I'll probably be trying it out. I wish I hadn't missed the closed beta, but the past several weeks have been kind of busy and I haven't been checking up like I normally do. Edited by Ralleac

Rall: I missed the closed beta signup too, but I won access from mmolecule.

Guru: Diametrically dissimilar. WoW is cute and cartoony, AoC is brutal, vulgar and realistic. WoW is pathetically easy, and even if you do go afk for an hour and somehow manage to die, there is effectively no penalty for death, so you don't even care. AoC, conversely, requires concentration, strategy and focus for every single attack, or you will die and lose substantial experience points. WoW has no real storyline, while AoC has a deep plot, especially in the first 20 levels, and single-player instances involving rich storytelling. WoW quests are ~90% directed grinding, killing x amount of baddies for y item to bring to cockhead z. AoC quests are ~5% directed grinding, I've only seen two quests like this out of 50 or 60, and most involve assassination, espionage, rescue, interrogation, or epic battles. WoW definitely has more content for the hardcore PvE enthusiasts willing to devote 10 hours a day to boring guild raids, while AoC utterly outclasses it in PvP. Edited by gaia.plateau

WE MADE THIS GAME!

I probably won't be playing it though, doubt my machine would handle it very well. Had to tweak UT3 a lot to get it to run smooth, and I'm guessing this is both demanding and not very tweakable?

its pretty tweakable as you can do dx9 or 10 and do all the normal graphics options there in.
gaia - im sad to see youll be on the rp. i would have loved to had the chance to chop off your arms and head on a pvp server.
thats where ill be. i have no patience for rp...i just cant get that into it.

hey d2 is 1 of the best mmo ever!

and u know for a fact diablo 3 would smash AoC

D2 isn't really an MMO. I liked the game, but I think the older versions of Ultima Online were better. Unbridled murder, theft, and PvP in general. Damn Origin/R. Garriott for selling out to EA, which wound up jumping on the PvE bandwagon. dry.gif

I thought this was gonna be Conan O'Brian...

did anyone else hear the news? Conan is taking over Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon is taking over Late Night...Leno is retiring, I just don't know when...it was on the local news tonight

would you say its a upgraded version of diablo 2?

The only thing it has in common with Diablo 2, is that you set each attack separately.

To compare it to other games... it has the PvE sophistication of FFXI, the story depth and microinstancing of LotRO, PvP to humble Lineage 2 and DAoC, the character customization of Oblivion, the graphics of Crysis, and the pick-up-and-play-ability of WoW. Its gameplay style is completely unique. Edited by gaia.plateau

My friend picked up the game at a local store (not sure which one.) I used his copy to install and patch it, so I should be playing soon. I have a respiratory infection of some sort that has made it's way into my lungs, so no smoking for a while...

Yeah I need to go get it soon. Been waiting a long time. I quit WoW and everything for AoC.

Let's get some servers of forum members up so some of us can get on the same one.

I was eager for AoC for months and months, signed up for closed beta but never got in

By the time open beta came around I was so swamped with my job and sitting at a computer all day its the last thing I wanted to do at night
