Oh yeah, come on over to the dark side, we smell really good. tongue.gif It is also fun to have someone ask you what perfume you are wearing, and your reply is "Embalming Fluid". rolleyes.gif

Nobody interested?? This stuff is 100% better then anything you can buy at a store, and all you need is a little bit and you smell great all day! I like to put it in my beard and hair and a little on my chest, and all you need to do is wet you hands a little, and run them though your hair and/or beard and you have a nice fresh smell again. The 8 samples I have with last for months if not longer.

Hmmm, perhaps then, we should just use this thread to discuss OUR current favorite BPAL oils, and then THAT may get people interested. My current favorites:

Blood Kiss: Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.

Dorian: The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself. Inspired by and created for my beloved Tedwin: my eternal, beautiful, wicked Dorian Gray. Refined, elegant, and lovely, with a noble bearing and seemingly gentle air. This blend is an artful deception: a sweet gilded blossom lying over a twisted and corrupted core. A Victorian fougere with three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea.

No. 93 Engine: Beeswax candles reflect flickering light onto a brass-coated boiler engraved with the words "Solve Et Coagula". The gargantuan boiler sends torrents of steam into rigid pipes that exert force onto innumerable pistons and turbine blades. The motion is harnessed to propel energy into gargantuan cogs and gears that move liquid metals, herbs, and resins into a series of alembics. Balm of Gilead, benzoin, frankincense, balsam of peru, beeswax, saffron, galbanum, calamus, hyssop, mastic, lemon balm, and white sage
.

Croquet:
'Get to your places!' shouted the Queen in a voice of thunder, and people began running about in all directions, tumbling up against each other; however, they got settled down in a minute or two, and the game began. Alice thought she had never seen such a curious croquet-ground in her life; it was all ridges and furrows; the balls were live hedgehogs, the mallets live flamingoes, and the soldiers had to double themselves up and to stand on their hands and feet, to make the arches.

The chief difficulty Alice found at first was in managing her flamingo: she succeeded in getting its body tucked away, comfortably enough, under her arm, with its legs hanging down, but generally, just as she had got its neck nicely straightened out, and was going to give the hedgehog a blow with its head, it would twist itself round and look up in her face, with such a puzzled expression that she could not help bursting out laughing: and when she had got its head down, and was going to begin again, it was very provoking to find that the hedgehog had unrolled itself, and was in the act of crawling away: besides all this, there was generally a ridge or furrow in the way wherever she wanted to send the hedgehog to, and, as the doubled-up soldiers were always getting up and walking off to other parts of the ground, Alice soon came to the conclusion that it was a very difficult game indeed.
We have some trouble managing our flamingos, too. Pink lime, pink grapefruit, white nectarine, wild rose, sage, woody patchouli, bergamot, and ornery hedgehog musk.

I used to do the same thing with oils back in the day, works great... but anymore I'd rather spend what little money I have on shisha tongue.gif

That place does definitely look to have some very intrigueing oils. Cool mixes, and well named.

I'm interested... but i don't understand exactly?

They are concentrated oils hand-made by some dudes (or some chicks) that are cologne-like (wihtout the alcohol)?
It sounds cool, but i just need some explanation.

Yeah, they are essential oils (no alcohol), so a little bit goes a long way. They are all hand-mixed by the labbies, Beth and Ted, and their assistants. They are very good at evoking a mood, a place, a literary character, artwork, a poem, or even sometimes a food or drink with their scents. I don't know how they do it, but they do...

It can be confusing for new people, because there are I think over 400 General Catalogue scents in the various categories on the left side of the home page. The scents come in 5 ml. bottles, but are also available in 1 ml. samples, or "Imps". You can order a 6 pack of "Imp's Ear" for $19.95. They generally throw in two random freebie imps (frimps) per 6 pack order. If you click on the "forum" tab on the left hand menu, there is also a review section, so you can check out what other people think of the oil you are considering, sometimes that helps to narrow things down a bit, too. You can also use the "search" feature to look for oils with certain things in them, such as dragon's blood, or patchouli, if you tend to like oils with that in them.

I hope that helps! If you have any other questions, ask away!

hey, thnaks a TON! I'll check those out, and i'm gonna purchase some imps.

How powerful and/or lingering is the scent? is it based on how much you use pretty much or is it strong with just a tiny bit?

Huh... you can buy some of the scents at Whole Foods? Edited by ZenSilk

Are there women's scents available?

As far as how strong the scent is/how long it lasts it depends on a few things. Some scents are stronger/longer lasting, some people's body chemistry reacts to scents in general or certain scents and makes them last longer. In general, you need only a very small amount of these oils because they are so concentrated. As Snoopy said, you generally get a lot of wears out of a 1 ml. imp.

As far a Whole Foods, there are only a couple of Whole Foods that stock the scents, they don't all carry them (unfortunately), and those that do, only carry a limited selection of the 5 ml. bottles.

As far a women's/men's scents, none are specifically gender labeled. Some scents tend to be preferred by men, but women wear them, too. Scroll down to the bottom of the FAQ for scents that tend to be more masculine:

YEAH, another convert! Let us know when they arrive! Although with BPAL, there is such a strong following anyhow, it is not so much converting as sharing the love... wub.gif

Can you make me smell like Pat Bateman??? I would be so sold!

tongue.gif seriously though, I'm calling schenanigans on that in a John Edwards kind of way until otherwise convinced.

can someone elaborate on what these are? 5ml for 15 bucks is rediculous

5 ml will probably last you a YEAR! lol What people mostly buy are the sample "Imp's Ears" at 6 for $19.95, they are 1 ml each, and even at that, they last quite a long time, as they are essential oils (they have no alcohol or filler oils, just pure scent). You only need to wear a very small amount. When you buy 6, they generally throw in 2 random freebies as well, so you're really getting 8 for the price. If you decide you really, REALLY like an oil, then you spring for the big bottle.

I never buy anything when I hear people talking about it like that. Have fun putting artificial and excessive oils on your skin!

Well, they are all plant-derived perfume oils (except the honey-based ones), but if you aren't interested, that's fine too! biggrin.gif And yes, we WILL have lots of fun! tongue.gif
