mushrat
Could be older hoses with built up tastes? bowls that don't get cleaned between every smoke? water that gets changed once a day not once a smoke? sometimes it's best NOT to ask. iheartvarg1
this is why i prefer to do it at home! not to mention its sooooo expensive ever since sultan cafe closed.. 4.99 hookah rental and $2 head refills.... no wonder they went out of business! they had te best turkish coffee in town too shed a tear
Sonthert
My guess is transient flavors (stuck-on flavors). They don't clean their pipes, they use the same pipes for all flavors. I use a hierarchical 14 level flavor separation scheme to avoid this. Some places make the mistake of using the wrong soap, or even bleach and people find out what a dangerous combo hookah and bleach are!

You would get a heart attack if you had hookah in Souther Cali then. Anywhere from $15 - 25 a rental. About half for refill.
ravi
At some hookah bars, like the one i usually go to.....they use natural charchoal. they put it on a stove then set it under a fan for alittle. This affects the hookah alittle, but i dont know if the bar you go to does this.

mushrat
hmmm...not sure about the "rental" thing. The place here, you get a hookah for 6 bucks with the flavour of your choice. you want another head, 6 bucks more....all Nakhla...and can you believe he is presently out of 2 apple and melon??? Good thing he lets me bring my own AF ESK apple and packs my bowls for me for a $3 use of the hookah. But I've been going there since he opened and I bring friends and we all get food and drinks. When he has the 2 apple i get a mixed bowl half my esk half his 2 apple, he charges me 3 bucks still and eveyone is happy...
ravi
ah your lucky, none of the hookah bars around me let you bring your own shisha so you have to put up w the nakhala and al waha. Also its 15 bucks but for as many people as you want and 2 flavors.
Dingle
Down here in San Antonio, they charge 8.99 a hookah with no more than 3 people on a hookah. About 2 or 3 years ago this place was $4.99 a hookah and much more relaxed. All the high school kids found out about it and had to ruin it.
