Checking A Hookah On A Plane

I am flying to California over the summer, and I was wondering the rules of checking a hookah or even carrying it on. Does anyone know?

i threw mine in my suitcase and just told them when i checked it in that it was in there and they were like ok.......i rapped mine in some serious bubble rap to so....do alot of rap though.....best bet would be carry on but you can only have so big of a carry on

I agree, wrap that mofo. Shouldn't be a problem hookahs (real ones) don't violate the law against "other things" so they should let it thru

i carried mine on all the way to ecuador last summer. not a single problem. one guy running the xray machine at security looked at me and said "is that what i think it is?" and I just said "yeah". in retrospect, i probably should have said, "no, it's a hookah, not a NH"

but yea, not a single prob. shisha is fine too. coals are a little fuzzy. i've heard different answers.

QL's are a definet no go because of the "puffers" they use to check baggage and naturals you CAN get away with i took mine when i went to monaco to see my uncle and didnt get hasseled

Wrap that puppy up VERY well. If you wind up having to have it stowed those ramp-rats will sling it & it could get broke. Have a great trip.

I put my stems, coil burner, some hoses, coal carrier, natural coals, all kinds of stuff in my suitcase to go with the luggage. I checked 3 vases, a ton of tobacco, glass bowls and phunnel bowls, I had everything I use at home and I went through my hometown, GA and FL no problems what so ever! I did not get randomly searched this trip also..lol
Just make sure you have the tobacco in good containers. I even brought a few that were unopened in case they had questions. So bring your vases and tobacco on board and the rest in the suitcase.

And yes as everyone has mentioned wrap the you know what with bubble warp for your vases and make sure everything is packed up as best you can. Nothing got damaged expect a container broke on me, no biggie.

I flew my hookah from jersey to florida, but if i weere you i wouldn't bring an expensive one...bring like a mya Qt something small that gets the job done. My qt made it to florida were me and my bro had good sessions...but on the way home they man handeld my suit cases and the vase cracked

Coals will definitely be removed from your bag if found, as will butane refills. The full, self igniting torch, however is apparently not a threat.

If they find them, they will confiscate them and send you a notice in the mail with a list of what was taken. I'm sure you're name then goes on a watch list, to insure that you're bags and phone calls get extra attention in the future.

I want to take my mini mya on a cruise with me this summer. I think it won't be a problem if I just throw it in the box it comes with. I would be worried about taking a bigger hookah though.
