Cleaning A Hookah

Recommended Posts

So i was recently given a hookah, that is a little beyond dirty

It has two holes for the air flow (from the hose to the base, that chamber)

Now the issue is the person that gave it to me used coconut milk, and got it all in the hookah, and that chamber.. It went bad and molded. I've tried to scrub it the best i could, but nothing really gets everywhere in there, so my last resort is chemicals, any recommendations? or something i've overlooked? It tastes bad and smells still, but i'm not willing to give up!

Acids will work best, Lemon, lime, or vinegar. As far as chemical based cleaners, all I have ever used was 409, and an adventure with milkstone remover.

Ugh, Why would anyone smoke coconut anything? I would rather juggle mason jars full of nitroglycerin while standing in a swamp full of alligators with a raw steak tied to my balls.

Scrubbing it somehow would obviously help as well... get some kitchen string and thread it through the hose port and the blow-off port and you should be able to scrub it a bit floss-style. For the hose port you could probably tie a bit of paper towel to the end and drag it through as well.

your best bet is to just get some small brushes.. maybe a toothbrush or even steel wool if your careful.. and if you really want it to have no taste/smell go with lemon juice and baking soda... it works wonders and even has a cool chemical effect, lol. good luck to you on this one

I almost hate to recommend a commercial solution, when everyone threw in so many household fixes... but if all else fails try some Formula 420 cleaner. It works on glass, ceramic and metal so its safe for all your hookah parts(minus the grommets AFAIK, but they should be removed anyway) I have seen this stuff turn junk black to crystal clear in 3 minutes flat. It really is a life saver. Edited by camelflage

i must say, baking soda and lemon juice ftw, although i've never tried the distilled vinegar, but the baking soda and lemon juice get all the nooks and crannies in my myas clean as a whistle

I think MechAnt also uses/recommends beer.

I personally just use a brush I got from hookah company and run hot water threw the stem while I scrub it until it is clean.
