I don't have much experience with non-natural coals, but I can tell you that natural is 'healthier', no bad taste at all, and its just better knowing you are using something natural, and not chemically prepared.

Hot Box and Tony's both carry natural wood coals. I prefer them over exoticas and japanese, but other people swear by the natural fingers.

I like the exotica coals just because of how long they last and they have no chemicals added to them.

those are not natural wood coals....

Define 'Natural wood'

Exotica [any most other finger charcoal] are natural wood charcoal, just compressed and shaped I believe. They may, or may not, contain some kind of binding agent. So they are pritty much natural, just easier to use and without the royal pain in the ass that lump wood coal is.

I like Coco Nara's

They are compressed Coconut rinds and residue, unlike exotica that are compressed coal. Never tried Exotica's yet but I hear they are awesome too.

I'm one of the few one here anymore that prefers Exoticas over Coconaras. I say buy the Exoticas and try them and see if you like them. If you dont, sell or trade them on here.

Hey codename what coals do you use and how many do you usually use when you smoke? I saw your videos and man the smoke you get is amazing. I get good smoke out of my egyptian and small phunnel too but you just seem to get massive amounts

I haven't tried to many different coals, but I have to say that I am really loving the Roman lemonwood coals I've got right now. ready to smoke in 5 minutes.... no taste at all, ash is light and doesn't gunk up the holes. Yeah, it can be a pain to break up half a tree branch to smoke, and sometimes you get a lumpy coal that refuses to sit properly on the screen, but I would say that the even heat and taste is worth it. Plus, it looks pretty when it gets to glowing.

Guys stop providing info to someone who's underage. In a previous thread the thread starter stated he was 16, and the legal age to purchase tobacco and tobacco products is 18 in that state, no reason to egg this kid on.

I agree with the general opinion so far, Coco Nara's are the best I've tried for natural.

They take a little longer to start but last longer with good heat and little ash.
