crimsonkingjv
So I have been looking around the forums and getting lots of good information; but I was curious if there were any good threads for people new to the world of hookah to read. Obviously the FAQ is a good place to start but it doesn't really have much information for someone who has never even seen a hookah in real life. Are there any good threads that talk about the difference in bowl types, hoses, styles of hookahs, things of that nature? Thanks in advance, you have all been extremely helpful so far and I can't wait to get my first hookah. WEEE FOR PAY DAY!!!!
OC4111
Bowls: i have a medium phunell bowl with a mod. this thing is awesome it really helps bring out and keep the flavor of you shisha going. Hoses: alot of people talk about either nammor or razan hose. i'll be getting one soonestyles of hookahs: alot of people will tell you KM or MZ, at the end of it all it's going to depend on what you like.coals: definitely go natural (exoticas, coco naras etc...) Best bet would be to check out the reviews section. alot of people have tried out alot of the stuff out there and you get some really good info. crimsonkingjv
Thank you, for that. What is the difference between bowls though? I keep hearing that the funnel style bowls are better but I can't find anything saying WHY they are better. Foil and screen seems to be preference more than anything so that is not an issue for me as I will try both and then decide. I have heard and read about those hoses as well but what makes them so great? Do they just give you that better of a hit because they are bigger, better designed, made of gold, can make you breakfast after a long night, WHY? Coals seem to be preference as well but I will try some 3k, goldens, and perhaps some naturals. But with regard to the "style" of hookahs I know about the better brands of hookahs but what is the difference in "styles"? You know, syrian vs egyptian vs chinese, that type of thing. Thanks again everyone, now back to reading threads.
Bulldog_916
Funnel bowls are good because you can smoke ALMOST every brand of tobacco in them, the exception being Nakhla. For generic shisha though, I like to use a normal bowl, it just hasnt failed me yet and probably wont in the near future. For Tangiers, I use a funnel, of course. All of the perfection of the smoking comes down to experimentation. You cant really get a feel for a method before you've grasped your own method. You only have to suffer through a few bad bowls before you really nail the heat level, packing method, etc. I got it right from the first bowl, from there it's come down to dialing in the best smoke sessions. So, pack some bowls and learn your craft.

crimsonkingjv
I hear a lot of people use those bowls but what makes them better than the rest?
Seanij
you can smoke almost every brand..it easier to manage heat on itit keeps juices from going down the stem, etc.it preserves juices giving a longer prevailing taste!
crimsonkingjv
Ah, so they help to keep the taste going, that makes sense. Can you not pack all brands into any type of bowl? What types of brands are supposed to go with what bowls? Also is it that you CAN'T put any brand into any bowl or is it that some bowls work better with certain brands? Thanks again. Seanij
Nakhla cant be smoked out of it unless you're like me & JD, adding Glycerine to your nakhla and getting it juicy like other brands.. then you can put it in the phunnel
crimsonkingjv
Huh, so the dryer brands don't work in a phunnel, I don't understand why won't they work?
Seanij
If its all about preserving the juice.. etc, what juice is being preserved in dry tobacco >_>
crimsonkingjv
Ok, so it would technically work but there is no point, is that it?

crimsonkingjv
Awesome, thank you nick I guess I should have just searched "new person faq" . Just never occured to me that it could be that simple.Edit: after reading that I realised I had read that before. The videos were great but it still didn't really answer my questions.
