My First Order

So this is going to be my first order. My girlfriend and I really like that hookah and she likes the flower head. I figured we should get a normal one to though. I figured I would order over the phone and throw the hookahforum name around and see if it gets me anything. So what do you guys think? I can get tabacco locally so no worries. I noticed no one has really used them so I will post a review after.

I have actually re-thought my order completely and have decided that since I don't have anything yet I should go with one of the sites that gives you a bunch of starter items with your order. With that in mind I have decided to go with a custom from Sahara co (hookahhookah). So I can't post the link but this is the order :

16" 2 hose stainless steel stem
7 1/2 " teal acid etched bubble vase
2 Blue velvet cobra hoses
1 large ceramic bowl
1 hookah-hookah 10 shot assortment

Plus if I order this weekend I get a free pyrex bowl

A one hose for 4 people ? Really? Huh, that goes against what I read. I thought for 4 people you would want at least a 2 hose that you can plug. Is that not the case? Once again thank you for the information. This is just all new to me.

-single hoses do smoke better, and I haven't heard great things about sahara's hookahs

-get a funnel bowl instead of a large ceramic

if u got 4 people 2 hoses is fine. my first hookah was a 2 hose. i normally smoke on my own now, but thats wat they make stoppers for

There are a few problems with multi-hose hookahs. If all the ports come with auto-seal, you can not purge. Also, the auto-seal makes the pull more difficult. If they aren't auto-seal, people have to remember to cover the hose when they aren't smoking. If one hose doesn't have auto-seal (allows purging,) it will have a better pull than the rest (good thing, IMO.)

I'd be careful buying from Sahara. They have some nice bases, but the few stems I've seen from them seemed kind of crappy. You should look for something that's made from quality stainless steel or brass. Everyone here will pretty much recommend 3 brands (KM, MZ, and Mya,) due to their reliability, but there are definitely others out there. Brass Syrians are often great hookahs, for example. Thank you for the information; I think I will go down to a 1 hose for now to save cost as well as hassle. Also I think I will get a Joker hose instead, I like the look better. Pretty inexpensive hookah for its size, unsure about its build quality.

If you want a foolproof setup, I've had great luck with Mya's. The acrylic is perfect for a first hookah in case of any accidents. I wouldn't go more than 2 hoses, with Mya you can use the adapters when you want more than 1 hose so thats a plus.

I would however strongly suggest getting your hands on some Nammor hoses from hookah-shisha. They blow away anything I have ever used. Or the home-depot tubing hose for the second best! Edited May 17, 2008 by jakescakes

The problem with unwashable hoses (and some that are labeled as washable, even though they aren't,) is that they tend to build up residue inside. They are also prone to rusting over time if any water vapor manages to get into the hose. Either way, the hose you use can have a significant impact on flavor. This just means that you'll want to replace your hose every month or two depending on how often you smoke.

Nammors and Razans are 100% safe to wash. People have complained that their Mya washables still rusted. Home made tubing hoses work fine, if you don't mind putting one together. Edited May 17, 2008 by Ralleac

See those sites are good but we don't really like the look of any of their vases. *Shrugs* It may suck completely and I will write a review on them but for now I think we will try them out because we love the look of the hookah.

My first hookah was from sahara smoke it smoked fine for me. Honestly, for a first hookah, they arent that bad, but there are better hookahs out there.

Yeah and see that is pretty much what I had gathered as well. They aren't the worst quality, but they certainly aren't the best either. I am okay with getting middle of the road quality for now so long as we like the look (and I'm sorry but Sahara has some of the coolest looking vases I have seen). So I will order from them but also get a nice hose and phunnel bowl from HS. Anything else any of you would recommend I order with the hose and bowl from HS?

Update: Order is placed! Sadly they were closed so I couldn't call them to place the order. Let's hope it all works out. I'll post pics and reviews when it arrives. Edited May 18, 2008 by crimsonkingjv

you can get a two hose some people here are all about traditions i mean if youre going to pass the hose do you always set it down first instead of directly handing them it

Too late now, but had you considered ordering a different hookah and then buying just the vase that you wanted?

I get that looks are important, especially in a device as elegant as a hookah, but because the hookah is also meant to function well, that should hold a lot of weight as well. Especially when a bad hookah an make you not want to smoke at all.
