Lighting Quicklights

Recommended Posts

I have read all over the place that one should light quicklight coals outdoors. I realize this is for health reasons (carbon monoxide etc.) Forgive me n00bness here but is it really that big of a deal? Kinda a pain to go outside and ignite new coals every 45 mins. while having a few friends over to smoke when i have a perfectly good kitchen. Just curious..

Or you could light them with your natural coals, but then throw them in a bucket of water because natural coals are superior.

I've had both QLs and Naturals explode and crackle all over my kitchen before. I've also had my carbon monoxide alarm set off by both on more than one occasion. It's a big enough hazard that I wouldn't recommend lighting them indoors if you can avoid doing so.

I light 3 Kings and Goldens in my bathroom which has great ventilation. And then I leave the room. Inside is okay, but I wouldn't light them in the same room I'm planning on staying in for any length of time. And I agree that outside is still much better.

Japanese and Naturals I can light on the stove with the fan on and no problems. I'm pretty sure though that quicklites are bad for you with no ventilation. Besides, the smell lingers, whereas good japanese and naturals don't have that problem.

+1

i would say, light them outside, preferably near a garbage can...because that's where they belong
