Bushbr
So i was just talking to my friend, and i told him in my awesome excited voice that my Mya Bambino was coming on thursday, a day befor my birthday. Then i had to explain what a Mya Bambino is....*sigh* Then he asked me a question i hadn't thought about he asked"So why 3 hookahs?"I stopped.I hadn't really though of it.so i gave the first answer that popped into my head"Because i don't have enough money right now for 4."so then i had to explain to him how Hookah is more than just smoking....its a hobby.....but its more than a hobby....it easily becomes a life styleyou wouldn't question a guitarist having more than one guitar would you?You wouldn't why a drummer has alot of extra symbols.Painters use more than one set of brushes.he understood, and is one step clover to conversion to our ways. Voski
My dad always gives me this same shit. I want to get another hookah and he goes you have three already. So I just had it delivered to my friends house!
ryno
Hookah does become part of your life. I absolutly love my hookahs, they all have names. I see anything you give a name is more than something. Your comparison to the guitarist and drummer are spot on i think. I like a variety to smoke out of. I cant think of more right now, but if i do ill add to it.Edit- found a good quote about hookah"Smoking a hookah is nothing like smoking a cigarette...cigarettes are for nervous people, competitive people, people on the run...when you smoke a hookah, you have time to think. It teaches you patience and tolerance, and gives you an appreciation of good company." Edited May 19, 2008 by ryno
waterboi
My roommate asked me the same question. I explained and now she understands. She still ask why another though. I have 6 and all smoke different. Just depends what mood I am in for which one.

stryet
Well, to me, it's a curiosity thing. As a hookah smoker, you are always looking for the best smoke. While it might be impossible to exhaust all the possibilities--liquid/bowl combos, hoses, wind covers, tobaccos--sometimes, you just wonder if it would be different in something else. I've owned 4 hookahs, and two have retired due to leaks and rust. The two left are my big KM and Mya QT. After spending so much money already, I know I can rely on these to last and won't be buying a new one until these are dead. I've always wanted to try a rotator or one with an ice chamber, and still do, but from a financial standpoint, I don't think I'll take the plunge for a while. For home and travel, the KM and QT are perfect, respectively.
liquidglass
^: honestly try them, but don't buy them to try them. Because IMO they are just the same thing with "perks" for instance the ice chamber just has a specific place for ice and the rotator just make sure it wont' 'fall over' but you can get those in a regular hookah, depending on how you use them.I feel you completely on hookah, it's almost like an art to me, a thing of beauty. Getting the 'perfect' water level, packing the perfect bowl and mixing flavors just right, until it's amazing. Is an art. My Indian friends who introduced me to it did it so easily and it tasted perfect. I wanted to learn how to do it. Even so it's something you can never fully perfect. I think of it as photography/painting/drawing, yeah you get better, but it's never 'perfect' and there are little tricks here and there you learn over time. Bulldog_916
I have 2 but only smoke one due to it's amazing smokability. The other is a Mitsuba that I will eventually give to someone who has not yet owned a hookah. My next one will likely be a smaller Mya or other style of hookah. I want something that I can take with me fishing or out to the garage without hassle. I cant smoke inside so a KM or MZ are not practical. So that leaves only a few options. Snoopy1966
I look at it the same way there Nick. I collect Hookahs because the are cool and it is part of who I am, like you said your lifestyle. When I went to practice yesterday, everyone was like, did you bring a Hookah? I told them it is like American Express. I don't leave home with out it!!I also use a different Hookah each time I smoke during the day. I will clean the one from the previous session, then select one based on what I want to smoke and for how long. It is like science

filmigeek
I'm a rank newbie and only just received my first hookah - I haven't even fired it up yet - but I completely understand the impulse to collect them. Leaving aside the question of having a different smoking experience from different hookahs - if nothing else, hookahs are beautiful, striking, dramatic objects. Lots of people collect blown glass or figurines or other interesting objects to display in their homes. If you have the collecting impulse, you have it. Some people do not have it and find it impossible to imagine cluttering their homes with objects. Other people have the impulse and have collections of all sorts of unusual objects. Personally, I am a collector by nature, and I could very easily understand why one would become a hookah collector. (Yay me, first post outside the introductions area. Whoo!) I joined in December and had one Hookah. Now I have 14. So watch out, you will be Hookahed with all the cool pics of everyones Hookahs. Hey I used Hookahed.. You will enjoy it here a lot. Many things to learn and many things you can teach us too! There is a plethora of information here, it has helped me a lot. I always was a collector too, but I have not collected anything for many years. I sold all the stuff I had because I just was not into the baseball cards and basketballs and sport related stuff anymore. I used to make car models all the time. That is always fun stuff, but I do not see the time for it anymore. Now we have grown up hobbies, well that is coming from someone who is almost 42. One of the Old Timers of the board. I want to get a cool shelving unit made up for the vases and then like a slot you can put the stems in, a place for my glass bowls if I don't break another one.. It would so cool to have a nice showcase for them. They are too pretty to be sitting in my closet...

Bulldog_916
Like I've said times before, welcome to your new addiction. I love hookah and will soon get more of them. To theotherone:Fishing is my favorite thing to do period. If I had to give up hookah to keep going fishing I would do it. I cant think of a more relaxing activity. Whether it be river fishing for sturgeon and striped bass, to lake fishing for black bass and catfish or trout and salmon, nothing comes closer to complete oneness with nature.
