wackypipe
I plan to store in an airtight container. It is better to keep in the fridge, or out? My place is a fairly constant temp. How long is it good for? I don't use it often at all.

wackypipe
I hear both ways. Any arguments for what you've heard? I got a stack of those ziplock/gladware small container tubs with the blue tops for storage.
Sonthert
I think...don't put it in the refrigerator. Keep your tobacco at approximately the same conditions(Temp, humidity) you will smoke it at. If you intend to sit in the refrigerator smoking it, then refrigerate it.

yashman19
I remember that the concensus was to keep it roomtemp, not in direct sunlight, and in an airtight container. There were people who claimed that they kept it in the fridge, but would have to bring the temperature of the ma'assel up slowly.... Ma'assel should keep fresh as long as its in an air-tight container/ziplock for around1-3 years. Try keeping around 50g of your ma'assel in a container in the fridge, and compare it to your roomtemp ma'assel and see if there are differences, this would be your best course of action if you are still unsure. I actually know because i kept tbac in the fridge once and it drys out all the molasses so you have like this flaky tobacco thats really dry. All the moisture dissapears basically. mushrat
I vote not. though i have no scientific baking at hand. If you can't smoke what you ahvein hand in a reasonable period of time..you have too much...
HookahDuck
I've smoked it before every being chilled. While it was chilled, and after it had set out for several days. I couldnt tell a difference at all
runride
i do not put mine in the fridge, but being that i only smoke about once a week, i put the open shisha in the freezer. this seems to work extremely well.

You should really think about only keeping 500g of ma'assel MAX on hand at any moment. If you only smoke once a week and need to freeze your ma'assel so it won't go bad, I think you have too much ma'assel. Most brands if kept properly should keep anywhere from 1-3 years, so freezing is just overkill and unnesseary, and probably doing damage to the ma'assel. ravi
i say just keep it at room temp and if you want also get an air tight jar to put your open shisha in
Sonthert
Full nicotine tobaccos (Al Waha, Nahkla, Tangiers) are more impacted by changes in humidity. When sealing in airtight containers, you seal in old air, with old humidity. If the current humidity is different, then it may undergo humidity shock and smoke poorly. The average smoker may not even notice the change, but the experienced hands of the Rancho Nahkla will tell you sometimes it smokes very strong and sometimes weak. This is due to changes in the weather. If you don't seal tubs, you get fading in the citrus fruits and the chance of ambient aerial contaminations (odd, poisonous or foul smells that can be picked up by the tobacco). I just keep mine sealed up and only leave them open if its safe from smells (if you can smell it, the tobacco can absorb it, so you can smoke it) and if the weather is changing. The Dude Abides
My Syrian friend's dad told me to store my ma'assel in the fridge, so I always have. It seems to work wonderfully.

jmexx
Old topic is right!I store big batches in the fridge, but anything I plan on smoking within the month or so, I keep out in room temperature.Jon
Cornellius
Keep it in the regrigrator but not in the freezer, chilling tobacco works only if tobacco is too hard and flavour is too alcholic then freezing it makes it lighter...
Hookahnoob
You mention a Full nicotine tobacco. What would the other type be? Thought they all had nicotine. And since I am posting.. Tangiers, what does the caffine in your seshia do for you? Why would someone get shisha with it or with out it?
Lakemonster
I've shied away from the refridgerater....... Once I chucked a tub of Al Amir 2x apple in the freezer.... and when I went to smoke it, the flavor had been altered.... even the smell before smoking. It ended up tasting and smelling like paraffin wax. A nearly full tub went straight to the trash bin. Granted, the fridge is at a much lower temp....... but I have been gun-shy about cooling down the tobacco ever since. Instead I simply make sure I have tobacco stored at room temp and used before (well before) the 2 year mark.
gunsboy
I used to put my Nakhla in the fridge because that mi'assil was turning bad after a while in storage. But since I read Tangiers comments about that last year, I stopped and it is working fine for my AF and other kinds of mi'assil.
thepyrofish
The type of cooling used by common household refridgerators sucks moisture out of the air. A common misconception with new cigar smokers is that you can refridgerate your cigars if you don't have a humidor. This will quickly ruin them. I assume the same would go for other types of tobacco. They would lost a lot of humidity and have to acclimate for insane periods of time to be properly smokeable. Nothing that wasn't said quite some time ago, really, but since the topic was brought back up I thought I would take the opportunity to look smart

Sonthert
I'm not all about the airtight containers. I recommend getting Glad or Ziploc food containers at the grocers and leaving the lids loose. Here's why:1. Tobacco will ruin your container...whether its red dye #40 or molasses or the poisonous effects of nicotine...it will be ruined...why ruin a good tupperware containers.2. Ziploc and Glad containers are made of polypropylene...which is very stable chemically. Polystyrene and polyethylene (and whatever Tupperware is made out of) are less stable and will craze, cloud up, or dissolve completely. This is probably bad for the flavor of tobacco doing it and definitely bad for you to inhale it into your mouth or lungs.3. Jars work well, too. Glass is very stable, chemically. Glass tends to be slightly more expensive that Ziploc/Glad containers. 4. Additionally, it is best to keep your tobacco in a long, flat container...something with a large cross-sectional area for the purposes of stirring and humidity acclimation. Glass doesn't offer much in the way of covered, cheap, long, flat containers...just mason jars.5. Keeping your tobacco in a "jar" is the worst thing you can do. It slows the process of humidity acclimation and makes more distinct "pockets" of flavor that increase the amount of theoretical stirring necessary to completely mix the tobacco up. As oppressivly hot and humid as its been here in So. Cal, I'm gonna put my tobacco in the freezer and then climb in with it to smoke it!
