Small hookah: judge

Recommended Posts

I've seen a small hookah in a shop somewhere. It was merely 4 inches in
height, and looked like a simplified version of a regular hookah.
Instead of having a bowl to put coal and tobacco in, it was fitted with
what looked like a small wooden pipe bowl, just like the one on a
regular pipe. I can only guess it is used as such, putting the tobacco
in it and then lighting it.
Now, I know the tobacco for hookahs is heated using coals rather than
direct fire. Do you think this small hookah can produce decent smoke,
or is it the tobacco not suitable for being lit directly? I could be
misstaken in how it works, but I don't see how such a small hookah
could have a complete system using coals.

It doesn't sound like it uses coals. I've smoked a miniature hookah similar to that but with coals...I think it was a bit bigger though. It worked, but the smoke was hot and it was a pain in the butt trying to keep the coals from falling on my lap. Personally I don't think they are as convenient as they seem to be.

there are 2 kinds like that i've seen. there's the mini like 6" tall
one with the base for water at the bottom, a stem going up, a little
bowl with a lid, and a small maybe 1/2cm diameter hose. the other kind
is more like a pipe. with a glass base and metal pipe to inhale from,
hardly any stem at all and a very small bowl. i've always been really
curious how well these smoked, but i wouldn't buy one to try it out.
the design just leaves too many potential reasons in my head of why it
would smoke like crap(harsh, hot smoke...bad pull...etc) i'm still very
curious as to how well they smoke though
