Codename067
Well, the main point of this thread is to help better understand how to pronounce brand names, and what they translate to [if any].So, if there is anything you would like to know, maybe something you are confused about or something you can't pronounce as easily [Arabic brand names of course], write it up and I will upload a voice file of me pronouncing it and then write some text of its meaning. Thanks George!!Not a Problem. I will put it up as soon as I find it! If I can't I'll just make another really quickly! The most commonly mis-pronounced one is Al Fakher...and I bet you anything that more than half of the people here will STILL be unable to pronounce it even after I upload the file. The 'kh' in Al Fakher is something not many people can pronounce lol. I'll have that up sometime after my classes today. MechAnt
I'm curious for Nakhla too! Has the similar 'kh' as AF.And Magdy Zidan I think of as (Mag-d Zeh-dawn). Is that correct?
peterjmag
I've heard a few different opinions on this one, so it'd be nice to get a slightly more authoritative answer: narghile. I usually hear people pronounce it "NAR-gile" (the second part rhyming with mile), but that doesn't sound right to me... "Nar-GEE-leh," maybe? "Nar-GEE-leh," maybe?the second one is right...gile is not pronounced gyle...as in argyle...also the 'kh' noise is similar to....clearing your throat edit: also, the term arguileh came from الارجيلة but as i said in the post after this the jiim (or j sound) is pronounced as a hard g by egyptians...so i guess the egyptian pronunciation became more popular even though they say shisha شيشة. so since the term caught on the word in arabic (mostly from what i've seen at least) is now الاركيلة, which would actually be transliterated as "ar-keel-ah" but by arabs it is still pronounced argeeli/arguileh Edited May 27, 2008 by antouwan

Codename067
Ok so finally I got thesei n right before bed. Its almost 2 in the morning so I had to lower my voice but its clear enoughAl Fakher http://www.soundupload.com/audio/xm4nx10dyfxdrvcKhalil Mamoonhttp://www.soundupload.com/audio/3cku350ys0q1o75Magdy Zidanhttp://www.soundupload.com/audio/xa1qclchop7c2t2The G in maGdy is pronounced differently. Not like the G George. Its an Egyptian name and the Egyptians pronounce the G differently...just like it sounds in the audio clip. And yes, Layalina does mean 'our nights'I did not put a clip of it because its fairly easy..but if some one wants it let me know.and yes, thats the correct way for spelling MZ in Arabic!
