Harshness While Smoking

Recommended Posts

I'm sure everyone has experienced this sensation at least once while they smoked hookah - harshness. It's that burning sensation you get at the back of your throat as if coal and ash were scraping against it. I hate having to fix this via dropping coals, ashing off the bowl, blowing out of the bottom of the bowl, blowing into the hose, etc... Anyone have an explaination to why this happens and is there a way of preventing this from happening? I think it might be due to my poor heat management skills, but who knows.

It is due to poor heat management. There's too much heat and instead of cooking the shisha it's flat out burning it and that's what you're inhaling. hence the harshness.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Yesterday I was smoking with a kid that just started and he thought it'd be smart to press the coal down into the foil in order to "get more smoke" and I nearly smacked him upside the head... After he did that, the rest of the session was pure hell.

Thanks for your input.

yeah man I would just start off slow and keep adding coals. It's definatley better to just build the heat up than to ruin your session. Also I don't know if your using a wind cover, but sometimes ill keep some coal not on the foil, but directly but beneath my bowl on my coal plate with the wind cover over it. This helps add a little more heat without the possibilty of burning.

yeah mann windcovers do mess up the heat for your hookah. But if it's not that, then make sure you're constantly moving your coal around working from the outside in and dont leave your hookah coal on when you're not ripping it anymore.

Sprinkle a few drops of water on top of the burnt shisha- your bowl will be revived if burnt.

Hmm, never thought about that.
Works well?

Its a bit tedious if you use foil, but it works everytime. No burnt taste.
