frost91
Hey guys, my name is Ron. I've been smoking shish for quite a while now. I love it. I just bought one recently that has a really light base. I wanted a heavier one but a guy told me its more hassle. The heavy and the light one are about the same in size. I was just wondering if the weight of the base really matters? And i also think that they are made out of different materials. Does it matter?
NickReppinThe909
it matters as soon as you knock it over or drop it but as far as smoke quality it wont make a difference unless the capacity of air held by the two is largely different
frost91
oh i see...well my friend had this plastic hookah we bought from the mall...It sucked. But the base was relatively big, but it was plastic.
NickReppinThe909
yea generally speaking mall hookahs are crap no offense they just are cheap chinese knockoffs and dont usually last long. but if your really serious about hookah spend the money and buy a KM tri-metal or hybrid from worldhookah.com if you want the ultimate smoke with good looks and a solid base
mdl
I'd rather have a heavy base so the center of gravity is lower thus making the hookah more sturdy. As Nick said, smoke quality shouldn't be different though.
Victim026
I dunno that Mall Hookahs are crap, every hookah I've ever seen in a mall has been a MZ at a Earthbound Trading Company location.

wayl0n
The material of a base varying from plastic to glass can concern to the outcome of your smoke. Bases that keep the temperature of the water chilled like glass keeps cool and doesn't condensate as much as a base such as plastic.
liquidglass
i agree with everyone else heavy glass base is better than anything else
Voski
A good base also makes it look like you are a legit hookah smoker. No one messes with your O.G. hookah skills when you got a ballin vase yo!excuse me for making an ass out of myself.
Rani
This is going to sound crazy but..... If your base is too light and wants to tip, go to an arts/crafts store like Michaels and buy CLEAN scrubbed river stones. Add them CAREFULLY to the base a few at a time until it's balanced. Then add your water. Works like a charm. The stones don't interfere with the smoking at all, and if you've got a clear-ish base looks pretty cool in there as well. You just have to be careful when you pour out the water and stones. And of course you have to wash them as often as you do the base. By the way you can also store the stones in the freezer to keep the base water cold. They will stay colder longer than melting ice cubes.'Rani
ryno
I prefer a nicd thick heavy glass base. I think it makes the hookah more sturdy and just look better. I think the shape has more to do than material..

I wish I knew about that 7 years ago when I started smoking hookah. My Hookah Bros hookah is small and the thing tipped over fairly often. I will keep your advice in mind for anybody that I know that smoke out of small "tippable" hookahs.

ilikemyusername
i think you'd be hard pressed to find a hookah smoker who prefers acrylic.
Codename067
One base will matter over another.Shape being the number 1 candidate.
TexasHookah
Really, you guys think acrylic hookah is no good? I personally use the acrylic hookah and it smokes great! I love my 24" 1 Hose acrylic hookah. Not having to worry aobut the glass base breaking ever is a plus. As for the base, a larger base you can get more smoke out of. Smaller base and hookah your going to get a harsher taste and less smoke. The large Egyptians smoke the best but are a pain to travel with, haha.
